Thousands of dads are left in shock as DIY paternity tests soar. Up to 30,000 tests are being performed every year, says Alphabiolabs. In the UK about 750,000 babies are born every year. Feminists want the test to be illegal without the written consent of the mother.

Here’s the list. It applies to men as well (I’ve altered #7 to make it applicable to men)

  1. Passive-aggressiveness: This behavior involves expressing negative emotions in an indirect and subtle manner, rather than addressing the issue directly.

  2. Gossiping: Talking negatively about other people behind their backs, often to make oneself feel superior or to gain social power.

  3. Playing the victim: Blaming others for personal problems or misfortunes, and portraying oneself as helpless or powerless.

  4. Manipulation: Using emotional or psychological tactics to control others and get what one wants.

  5. Perfectionism: Setting impossibly high standards for oneself and others, and becoming excessively critical or judgmental when those standards are not met.

  6. Jealousy: Feeling envious or resentful of others' successes or possessions, and using this as a reason to undermine or sabotage them.

  7. (For women) Unrealistic expectations of femininity: Believing that women should conform to a narrow set of standards for beauty, behavior, and personality, and judging those who do not.

  8. (For men) Unrealistic expectations of masculinity : Believing that men should conform to a narrow set of standards for strength, behavior, and personality, and judging those who do not.

some people are by nature perfectionists orv were raised to bec that way. Hard to not be perfevtionist when you were disciplined for getting Bs orc had your covers thrown off if bed was not creased at the edges properly, or required to reclean entire bathroom with a toorhbrush if there was a spec of dirt, or rewash the car if you left spots after drying it.

That’s trauma based perfectionism. It’s hard to break that kind of conditioning.

Wow. Kinda surprised to see this article in that form.

Thanks for sharing.

As much as I agree, I hate the term toxic femininity because it feels like a reflex on toxic masculinity. Are there negatives traits of both genders? Yes. Does it make sense to use this term. Also yes.

I can't get over how distasteful the term toxic masculinity is used to discredit men, masculine behaviour and competency.

Agreed, toxic people, toxic ideologies. But femininity and masculinity shouldn't be associated with toxicity.

[–]Ultime321 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you! Thats exactly it.

My biggest issue is they use internalised misogyny for women. Makes it sound like it's society's fault for making behave in such a way.

For men it's toxic masculinity, a term that gives the impression that it's men's fault and it is certainly used in that way even though some feminists fall back on the academic definition to try and deny it.

[–]Ultime321 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thats a powerful point. They always bring it back to the patriarchy and men. Somehow women's mistakes are men's faults too. There is always some truth that perceived injustices can cause many to act harmfully but you can't take away from people's agency and responsibility.

Yeah i wish people would stop using it, stop saying it, stop talking about it. The more attention u give it the more relavant it is, that cringey saying its used by insecure, pathetic women

There seems to be no agreement on what toxic femininity is. To a feminist it's being a "good women" in our parlance.

Lifestyle expert Karine Laudort explained: 'Toxic femininity refers to a set of negative behavioral traits associated with traditional gender roles and societal expectations placed on women.'
Meanwhile Justin Donne, an Equality, Diversity, Inclusion Expert, said: 'Some of the behaviours or traits that may be associated with toxic femininity include manipulation, gossiping, cattiness, passive-aggressiveness, and using one's femininity as a means of power or control.

I’m amazed that article exists.

[–]parahacker 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No.

If we want the loathsome phrase 'toxic masculinity' to die in obscurity (and we really do), we don't get there by promoting 'toxic femininity' as a concept.

Too late. Horse has bolted.

Toxic traits are toxic. No need to gender them.
