If this video presents the facts accurately, a man was penalized $43,000 for cheating on his not-wife. Last I checked, adultery is not illegal, and this man never even signed a contract. Basically, what this says is men are liable for thousands of dollars in damages for going against what the woman thinks they've agreed to, even in the absence of a written contract, and even if he didn't actually cause a dollar's worth of damages.

But still, this shouldn't scare men away from marriage. Are you fucking high?

I really wish there was a bit more context to this - I don't know how this could possibly even have gotten to court. Had they committed to spending $50,000 on the wedding and they couldn't get it back when it was cancelled or something? The news report implies it was called off because he was cheating, and that's about it.

Okay so here's what I've been able to surmise:

She has a kid from another relationship, and a kid with this guy.
They've been living together a long time, de-facto / engaged.
She quit her job with his support in order to look after the children.
She catches him cheating, twice.
He kicks her out of the house.
She also cheats at some point, giving him a claim to counter-sue.
They break up.

It's not as straightforward as the title or news story makes it seems, and these aren't the actions of two normal people who love and look after each other and then things fall apart. It's two fucking crazy people who have a train-wreck of a relationship.

Ok, can someone PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD explain to me why men often have to pay for their wife's attorney fees? I CAN NOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME UNDERSTAND THIS CONCEPT. Yes, I am irritated by this because it makes no sense. So many times I read about the husband having to pay for his wife's divorce lawyer. What is the legal basis for this?
