TheGuardian: Should there by an International Mens day?

Telegraph: Do we really need a Mens day?

Huffingtonpost: When 365 days just aren't enough.

The Raw Story, Guardian: The feminist principles behind International Men’s Day

Telegraph.uk: International Men's Day is a touch ironic, isn't it chaps?

There are some extremely misandry going on in the text of the last 3 articles, so tread with caution.

I like the suggestion in the Huffingtonpost headline that we, as the unified patriarchy, increased the number of days in a calendar year to 366 to make room for IMD.

They're not actually arguing that, of course! Their actual arguments aren't that well-informed.

"It's disturbingly true, as one website devoted to IMD notes, that men are twice as likely to be victims of violent crime as women. Men are more than 80 percent of the victims of homicide globally. But here's the thing: Men are also far more likely to commit these violent crimes... The problem with the IMD idea is that men's vulnerabilities are not clearly and consistently put into the context of gender inequality and the ongoing oppression of women." Any mention of men suffering disproportionately from violent crimes is invalid, because 1) it's our fault for being men, and 2) it's meaningless if we don't compare it to harm done to women (which, once considers, will invalidate any harm done to men).

They should have stuck with our evil patriarchal manipulation of the calendar.

Men are also far more likely to commit these violent crimes

Why is it ok to say that "like on like" crime is no big deal when talking about men, but not when talking about blacks?

[–]SchalaZeal01 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its not just "like on like" it's "stop punching yourself".

As if the bully and its victims were just two parts of the same collective consciousness. Men are borg, so whenever men infight, it's "its own fault". Apparently. Men cannot EVER be individuals, so they say.

Ugh, what 365 days are they talking about? When are men's issues ever discussed in society or by politicians? Never, for 365 days a year we talk almost exclusively about women's issues.

International Men's Day is turning out to be really excellent publicity. It's brought them all crawling out of the woodwork. And there'll be another one next year!

The Telegraph article is fairly objective, and does its best to answer the question without much bias. It's not misandric whatsoever, so I'm curious as to why you're including it in the list?

[–]portlandlad[S] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is objective and well written, hence the warning for only the last 3 articles. But just the fact that there's a question as to whether or not we need a Men's day (we've had it since 1999), goes to show the social ignorance of men's rights.

And they are too stupid to realize that their own hate is the best proof that their feminist propaganda is bullshit. The fact that you guys spent your precious time on writing male-bashing articles is proof positive that male-bashing is in fact rampant, and that we should take steps to stop it. There is so much hate out there targeted at men, it's mindblowing.

these news organisations are filled with manginas

Simple. When International Women's Day comes around next year and people start complaining about the existence of it that would be a great time to bring these posts back up.

It might as well be called international misandry day.

"But men? Last time we checked, men, as a group, still run the world. Make more money. Run most governments, media, religions, armies. That sort of thing."

It is outrageous that this fallacious argument gets so much air-time in the mainstream media. 99.98% of men are in none of those categories, as are 99.99% of women. But somehow all men must pay the price because the tiny percentage of the population who run the show are mainly men.

The articles may or may not be misandric, but the headlines aren't really.

Any male who writes on Huffington Post has betrayed his gender
