From the very next paragraph:

Courts can increase the amount of child support if the primary joint managing conservator can prove by competent evidence that there is a need for additional child support above the cap

So, although it's called a 'cap' in practical terms the $1,875/month is the minimum a separated father will have to pay.

Supposedly child support is meant to pay for basic necessities, food, shelter, clothing etc.

From wikipedia:

$4,020 is the basic cost of raising each child per year as estimated by the Department of Health and Human Services for 2013

That's $335/month per child.

So the question is, if the government already knows the basic cost to raise a child, why is the very same government forcing men to pay 6 times more than that amount?

The maximum cap on child support should be $335/month per child, for all men.

The cap is not really permanentnt and Texas laws are a joke.

I just completed my divorce here. I have my 3 kids half the time and still pay almost 2k a month.

So hold on, if I earn $300k in some other state, what would the child support amounts be (I assume it depends on the number of kids as it does in the UK)

What is even better are the Texas alimony laws. They actually have a 3 year cap.

Before we get too excited, you'd probably have to earn a lot.

In Canada, two children hits $1,875 per month once you're earning $133,000 per year. So really, this cap doesn't protect men so much as rich people.

Between this, cheap housing, and cheap tuition at universities. Hell medical school is only 12k/year tuition, in other states it easily goes for 30-50k/year. It seems Texas really should be an independent country. I don't know why people make fun of it for being filled with hicks when Texas really seems like the best place to live these days.

If the divorce doesn't happen in Texas and/or the kids don't reside in Texas then this isn't going to help you.
