If they want the pay gap to stop and women to advance in their careers, maybe the quota shouldn't be placed on how many women are in executive positions but instead placed on the women's working hours. Men worked 60 hours this week vs your 45? Guess what, you're coming in on Saturday to make up for your 15 missing hours. Don't like it? Fired. We're trying to create equality here, not cater to your bullshit.

Male managers were paid an average bonus of £6,442 last year versus £3,029 for women, figures from the Chartered Management Institute show.

At directorship level the pay gap is even starker, with male directors earning an average bonus of £63,700 versus £36,270 for female directors last year.

Less stark, in fact:

£6,442/£3,029 = £2.13 bonus to male managers versus £1 female managers
£63,700/£36,270 = £1.76 bonus to male directors versus £1 female directors

I mean, wow. Math doesn't even count anymore. "These numbers are bigger so the "crisis" is even worse at the director level!"

And to point this out one more time: If you have one male employee who has been on payroll for two years and has never missed a day, and another, a female employee,who has been on payroll for two years but took one of those years entirely off, with pay, some of which was on you, the employer, to raise a child, who are you going to be quicker to give a bonus to?

One has given you 100 arbitrary units of production at whatever task. The other had a child and in turn gave you at least 50 less (why at least? One out of two years off and the time and extra money/resrouces it took to keep the position occupied with a new employee while the other employee was on leave, and having to keep that job available to them when they returned). Who do you give the bonus to?

This link was posted by somebody on my Facebook list. As I also wrote on that person's wall, women generally put in less overtime than their male counterparts. The 'average bonus' is calculated in terms of the overall average. Women are also generally less able to work as many hours of overtime, due to physical stamina. Men, whether we like it or not, generally have more physical stamina than the average woman. Hence their ability to work longer hours. Also consider that the overall average drops when women start working part time to look after children. We can't have it all!

Bonuses are usually given based on performance and merit. Either of the company as a whole, the person themselves, or a combination of the two.

So we have two possibilities here:

a) Women in higher echelons of the business world aren't as good as men.

b) Bonus structures are sexist.
