“Sen. Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Democrat who is chairman of the judiciary committee, believes federal DNA testing laws have gone too far. Although he strongly supports the Violence Against Women Act, he said he always had reservations about its mandate that DNA be collected from anyone arrested or detained by federal authorities.

Fuck everyone who supported putting that rider in the Violence Against Women Act. I did not hear about that and of course, people will just repost shit like "Senator XXXX voted against the Violence Against Women Act" without mentioning this abhorrent part of the legislation.

There's also the fact that men imprisoned might come out thinking society owes them something and may not be level headed from the beatings and raping they've endured. So they decide to go out and commit the crime they were imprisoned for.

Prison doesn't rehabilitate people, it just teaches them to kill the witnesses.

Overall, I'm against the ruling. I really don't want the cops taking samples of everybody's DNA.

In some situations, this could prevent false accusations, though. Find the guy that did it, and the guy who didn't do it has less to worry about.

Trouble is, this is assuming that law enforcement and the courts don't bungle the evidence, and wind up accusing the innocent guy whose DNA was sampled. This is an assumption I am reluctant to make...
