Never going to happen. They will never allow men to control their bodies.

I had a friend that was trapped by an uneducated prior single mother. He pays $800 a month until 18 +plus college. She claims she didn't know the antibiotics messed up her birth control. And she started to not like condoms anymore.

If people are prepared to pay for it people will try and invent it. The problem is that its a really hard thing to do. With female contraception you need to stop just over one egg a month. That's a fairly straightforward target and there are existing mechanisms you can hijack to do it. By comparision men produce millions of sperm and there are no existing mechanisms to stop them from doing so.

To get a drug past the FDA it has to be better that what is currently on the market. The pill is the gold standard. Good luck with that.

It only has to be better in a subset of cases. And given that the pill doesn't work at all for 50% of the population and has various side effects in the other 50% that wouldn't be a very high standard to meet. The problem is it would have to be effective.

no there are ways, vagisjel existed as well as many kinds of "stoppers" or things like papaya seed that destroy the sugar tails that make the sperm leave. I agree its harder but there are things out there.

[–]geniice 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Vasalgel is going to have side effects but otherwise may work well enough. Your chemical approach like papaya seed hit the problem that you need to reliably shut down 100% of sperm week after week I'm sceptical that anything out there at the moment can do that.

[–]PowerToAnnihilate 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

honestly you just need to shut down like 90% and practice other methods. Papay seeds + condom/pulling out? Might as well be birth control (assuming you have checked your sperm count and its very low cause of the papaya).

Papaya seeds + IUD? Have a blast.

As far as why it doesn't exist,

Well, stopping sperm production with drugs is actually fairly easy, and we have a number of drugs that do this already.

However, they also prevent erections, which sort of defeats the entire purpose.

The reason is quite simple male birth control is way more complicated than female birth control. Basically female birth control uses inherent biological processes (processes that occur naturally in women) to make a pregnancy not happen. However in men there is no sperm off switch so the birth control has no biological system to take advantage of. This doesn’t mean it’s impossible or not worth researching but there are far greater hurdles than most people would think.

It kind of exists...

Change your username to u/Ordinate1 if you want an effective prophylactic.

Change it to u/MenRDogsandIknowCuziAM1 to have children as fast as possible.

Men should not be responsible for a woman’s biological processes. We have condoms. That’s all we need. Women should be the ones worrying about making sure that they aren’t getting pregnant.

You don't want more options besides condoms? That's on you but other men would like more control over reproduction than that.

Also expensive to get and to reverse, and not guaranteed to work after reversal, especially if more than a few years go by.

More options is always beneficial.

I would rather shoot blanks at a bullet proof vest than real rounds... I would also rather shoot blanks if she refuses to wear the vest.

No. No. No.

And also: No.
