It's also that women tend to enlist help from third parties. Which means it's counted as "multiple perpetrator homicide", and not "domestic abuse".

And women tend to kill their kids more than men do.

I'm commenting first to keep an eye on this thread. However, I wanted to add that you should likely open up the stats to include abuse outside of just murder. Keep in mind too that men are probably* less likely to report verbal or minor physical abuse.

*i say probably because I'm sure it's true, but am not in a place where I can provide stats. I assume, like rape, men are less likely to come forward or be counted for spousal abuse for fear of appearing weak

Dr. Capaldi’s research examined the different relationship violence scenarios — violence by him only, violence by her only, violence by both with him initiating, and violence by both with her initiating. Of these, the most likely to result in future injury to women is when she initiates violence against him and he responds, although both mutually aggressive groups were close in danger levels.

Dr. Capaldi notes that in a study of women who were in a battered women’s shelter, “67% of the women reported severe violence toward their partner in the past year.” Others in the domestic violence field, including Erin Pizzey, founder of the first battered women’s shelter in England in the early 1970s, have had similar findings.

In New Zealand it is a 3 to 1 ratio, women to men. Which is surprising when you think of the relative strength of both parties.

Fortunately, while death does happen in domestic violence situations, it is a very small number of people die this way.

In NZ, again, 12 times as many people die of suicide, 10 times as many door of prostrate and breast cancer, 12 times as many die in road accidents.

The vast majority of dv doesn't result in death. There are likely more male victims dying of suicide than there are women dying as victims of their partner. We just haven't bothered to do this research yet.

Another interesting fact in NZ is that 40 percent of adult family violence deaths are men. Guys are much more likely to be killed by other family, with 74 percent of elder abuse deaths being men. Funny how you never hear about that one.

This is relevant because one of the cases for women receiving support services when they are a victim, and excluding men, is that men don't experience as much harm from intimate partner dv. Those services care for women living with any dv relationship and as such men are much closer to parity of risk as adults.

Don't get me started.
