When I first heard the term, the context it was used in was in regard to white knights. So I took it to mean a feminist man, but particularly one who blames the male gender for social problems, who white knights and always sides with the woman no matter what, who says things like "men are trash", etc.

But then I saw memes like these. According to the Urban Dictionary definitions, along with being a feminist, a "soy boy" is defined as a man who is non-athletic, who doesn't have a high sex drive, who hasn't been in a physical fight, who--of course--drinks soy, and basically who doesn't conform to the stereotype of a traditional man

I understand the feminist part, but all the latter traits besides that seem irrelevant. So some men aren't athletic or into sports; some men don't have a super high libido and some are completely asexual; some men don't get into physical fights and some don't like violence at all; some men drink soy and some are vegetarians

They're not even necessarily reflections of his political viewpoint. Why should a man be demanded to behave in a way that he doesn't like being? Shaming a man for not being athletic doesn't seem any better than when feminists shame a man for not emoting in the way that they think he should

I've heard "soy boy" being used a lot by anti-feminists (who may or may not also self-identify as MRA's), but it also seems pretty anti-male to shame men for not conforming to an ideal. Like a tradcon version of "neckbeard" used by some feminists, both serving the purpose of demonizing men whose lifestyles they disagree with

If a man does enjoy being a traditional, physically strong, stoic, provider / protector into sports and hunting and what-not, that's fine and it doesn't make him someone who contributes to "toxic masculinity"

But likewise, if a man isn't physically strong, if he's into plucking his eyebrows or other "metrosexual" grooming habits, if he isn't aggressive and doesn't like physical violence, if he orders soy frappuccinos from hipster cafes or what-not, that's also fine and doesn't make him someone who contributes to the "emasculation of modern men"

Both kinds of men are attacked by different groups, but for the same reason of trying to control men's personal choices

Anyway, obviously that's my opinion, but I want to know what people here think. If it's just more male shaming, if it makes sense because men should all be traditionally masculine, or some other idea
