so, you're making several assumptions based on your belief system. You believe that someone that wears a strap on can't possibly respect themselves if they'd do that. That's a belief that you have.

What if its NOT a belief that SHE has? Then that would make you wrong about her respecting herself. So then your main premise would be wrong, which is that if she doesn't respect herself, why should anyone else.

What if she DOES respect herself?

And furthermore, what does respecting someone as a human being have anything to do with what they wear? She's not hurting anyone with a crazy costume. She doesn't necessarily owe anyone to live up to their idea of being a "respectable role model" and frankly, living up to every single person's individual idea of a role model (much like yours above being that role models can't wear crazy costumes and still respect themselves) is frankly impossible.

So my answer is that there doesn't have to being anything objectively WRONG with her.

She should have some base amount of respect given that she is another human being, regardless of what she chooses to wear on stage, or how she chooses to act. And frankly, whoever doesn't give her that base amount of human respect is, in my opinion, being pretty arrogant in thinking that another human doesnt DESERVE that respect simply for not aligning to their specific, subjective, and deeply personal beliefs about what it means to deserve respect.

Its my believe that everyone deserves a small amount of human respect. Give it to her, and by extension all women, and by extension all people.

I didnt say that people deserve tons of respect just for having a pulse, but I do think that everyone should respect everyone else minimally just because they are another human being on this planet we all share.

If human beings dont get ANY respect until they are capable of earning it, then babies and children shouldnt be respected. I think we can all agree that babies and children have rights based in the fact that we all respect the fact that they are human beings with feelings, experiences and thoughts that deserve at the very least to be acknowledged. Much like you've acknowledged my opinions, though you disagree with them.

Good talk, but please reconsider how you approach other human beings that you can't possibly fathom what may or may not be going on in their lives or the motivations they may have. All humans deserve a modicum of respect and benefit of the doubt.

theres also a difference between respecting a person and respecting what they do. you can respect a person as a person without agreeing or approving of what they do. miley cyrus may not do things you agree with, which is your right, but if you also dont even respect her as a person because of a costume she wears, thats more of a problem with the way you interact with the world, imo, than the way she does.

If you were in a conversation with her about music, would you respect her opinions and her ability to have them, or not?

If you were next to her on the subway and coughed and she asked you not to because she didnt want to take a chance on getting sick, would you cough more in her face on purpose simply because she wore a dildo?

There's a clear difference between respecting someone as a person and agreeing with the things they do.

You can conjure an endless supply of hypothetical situations that try to paint me an unreasonable person because I won't give you what you want.

It will not change the reality that respect and rights are two different concepts.

I do not respect Miley Cyrus. As a performer. As a person.

I do accept the basic human rights that Miley Cyrus has - the same ones that you and I have.

You have no right to my respect. That is never going to change. It is my decision who I will respect and why. You are not part of that decision process.

If you behave in such a way that I find respectable, you will earn my respect. Until then, you are just another face in the crowd.

I'm perplexed about why you are having such a hard time observing my freedom of thought and autonomy. This is not how you earn my respect.
