This is something I tried to encourage my NVM ex to be better about with his kids. He had a son and a daughter, and so much of his praise was focused on how attractive they both were. His handsome son. His gorgeous daughter. I tried to explain the benefits of focusing more on accomplishments, skills, gratitude, etc., but he just didn't get it.

Ugh I hate that I used to make fun of women. Now I go out of my way to empower them. I’ve started putting men down though which I don’t necessarily like but sometimes I can’t help it. I’m angry with them.

Yelena Serova always comes to mind, shes a russian cosmonaut who did an interview and instead of getting normal space related questions her male cosmonaut friends got she instead got questions about her hair and makeup. you can see it visibly on her face how shes realising her achievements are second. her womanhood comes first and its the most irritating thing

her male peers had this look. i dont know how to describe it. they seemed genuine, they wanted to help her but they didnt know how so all they could do was keep silent. its like how white people react when i tell them how difficult it can be to be a south asian woman. they want to help but dont know how exactly and you know no matter what you can never quite convey what its like so we both just coexist
