I recall reading in some crime book that a woman wearing sweatpants walking with her head down is actually more likely to be raped/kidnapped/murdered than a woman strutting down the street in a minidress.

Criminals always target victims they perceive as weak, vulnerable, unconfident, won't fight back, and with no support network.

Rape has been around since the beginning of time. In the Bible, there are soooo many stories of women getting raped. I’m pretty sure the women wore modest clothing then too. In 2 Samuel, chapter 13 the Bible mentions the rape of Tamar by her own half brother, Amnon. He was crazy obsessed with her and after violating her, he just kicked her out of his room, while she was silenced and left to carry the shame.

This is very much true. Though, the time I was harrassed was when I was wearing a short red dress (I normally wear jeans). This is very circumstantial evidence, but I've been uneasy about wearing dresses late at night since.
