People who gave the "I love you but I'm not in love with you" speech, what's your story?

Not me, but it’s what my dad told my mom. Roughly translated, it means “I’m leaving you and the kids for our secretary who’s 13 years younger.” Hope this helps.

I didnt give that speech exactly. But I do and probably always will love my ex. Our marriage had corroded into a toxic mess where we were both extremely unhappy, and she had fallen out of love with me, where I felt isolated and as a result pulled away from the marriage even more. She had been willing to stick it out but it had lasted almost 2 years, no intimacy, complete communication breakdown, and just hurt feelings. Counselling wasnt helping so we eventually sat down and I told her I wanted her to be happy and it was evident it wasnt with me, and that I would stop going to counselling because it was a waste of time and without serious concerted effort which she wasnt willing or able to give our marriage had failed.

She came around, we both ended up on the same page, and we split up, but still have a good relationship with eachother and our son, and it's been amicable.

It's not that exciting and pretty opposite to some of the stories on here. She made some serious mistakes, as did I, she had a lot to grow and learn about herself and since we split up has become a better person and reminiscient of who I originally fell in love with.

I've had co-workers ask me "what does that mean?' after hearing it from their spouses.

My personal observations so far mean "I found someone else" 100% of the time, though it's possible that it means 'it's just not working out' (without someone else in the picture)

My ex-wife gave me the 'I think you should move out speech' while I was grilling in the backyard with our then toddlers.

I didn't know what to say. It was the last time that I grilled. To be fair, my ex-wife would always say crazy stuff to get a reaction. So, I just laughed and said 'sounds good, when's he moving in?'

Her affair partner moved in shortly after I moved out.
