During the Vietnam War - when men were drafted- 61% of US soldiers killed were under 21 years old. Meanwhile, feminists at home were protesting unequal bathrooms.

"Women do a lot better with other diseases than men do," he said.

I guess that's why I'm always hearing about the disease gap.

I wonder which gender is more likely to have a job that exposed them to conditions which can cause long term respiratory damage.

In the generation most affected (65+) smoking was/is a lot more common and there is also a solid difference between the sexes (significantly more men smoke, than women).

So this is most likely a confounding variable effect:

In statistics, a confounder (also confounding variable, confounding factor, or lurking variable) is a variable that influences both the dependent variable and independent variable, causing a spurious association. Confounding is a causal concept, and as such, cannot be described in terms of correlations or associations.

I heard that in Italy there isn't much of a gender difference when it comes to smoking.

I'm Italian, I don't have datas but I would say more men smoke than women in my age bracket ( I'm 30) but I would say not by a lot. In the 65+ way more men smoke than women.

Just found this, it's from 2014. In the second graph you can see the age/sex distribution, men =uomini and women =donne

[–]shit-zen-giggles 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Does your data refer to the 65+ years old generation or the general population?

[–]shit-zen-giggles 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've just read a surprisingly objective artilce in the guardian (of all places).

The "greater prevalence of smoking in older men leads to greater proportion of severe COVID19 cases" hypothesis seems to hold up, but is not sufficient to explain the whole observed difference.

posting to keep the record straight as new evidence emerges.

Just learned that among all the other awful things about being male...we have worse immune systems too, I hate that I was ever born a male and really at all... even Mother Nature hates us and thinks we’re disposable.

[–]LacklustreFriend 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not actually clear that the higher fatality rate is actually due to immune response (biological), or societal conditions. I'm honestly sceptical of any claim that it's (only) biological. Men are less likely to see medical attention/more likely to prioritize others. They are more likely to undertake strenuous activity even when sick, and men are generally are in poorer health to begin with (e.g. alcoholism).

Like what exactly? I don't mean from society's perspective, what is awful about being male, especially biology?

we have worse immune systems too

It's a double-edged sword. It also means we aren't at risk of auto-immune conditions.

[–]tonicKC 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Auto immune disorders don’t kill as many people as pandemics like this.

Alzheimer is on the rise

[–]tonicKC 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Just cuz people live long enough to get it... I’m not concerned with disease in old age really...I’m concerned about my young life being fucked up.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Eldery men are less likely to get it, living long has nothing to do it, a smaller percentage of them have it and lots of people with it are under 65 yrs old

[–]tonicKC 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean again... I don’t cate about living better than women in old age.

Being a man is high risk high reward. Where being a woman is low risk low reward.

Advantage/disadvantage-disadvantage/advantage.

Those that win; win big! like Genghis Khan whose the forefather of two percent of the fucking globe and ruled over a massive empire, or Alexander the Great who has a similar legacy, though not genetically.

Go out there and conquer--yourself and others--forget these leftist delusions of equality.

Go. Go. GO!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd say being able to marry up to a life of privilege and not worry about hardship is a great example of a womans low risk high reward life.

[–]tonicKC -3 points-2 points-1 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What advantage is it to have a shorty immune system that can’t fight off a virus as well as a woman?

[–]Oncefa2left-wing male advocate 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Men get over illnesses faster than women but the peak severity of the illness is worse.

I imagine we'll see some more research being done on this topic in the next couple of years but this is the theory I've seen proposed on places like r/MensRights.

After all, the primary cause of death in this illness is a condition where your immune system goes into overdrive as a response to the respiratory infection caused by the disease (called a "cytokine storm"). Your body isn't smart enough to tell the difference between a bacterial or viral infection and most of the symptoms, and the eventual cause of death, is because of your body's own immune system. The problem is that it "overreacts" to the disease, as if it were a severe bacterial infection, instead of a viral infection.

[–]Strikester101 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Like I said, it's not exactly a benefit for women either.

Stronger immune systems may result in susceptibility to auto-immune conditions.

[–]tonicKC 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’d rather have lupus that have twice the chance of dying in a pandemic.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a disadvantage, the women are biologically advantaged here because evolution shaped them so, likely in order to ensure a healthy offspring. What I'm saying is that you should work on areas where you're advantaged and build on the place you're strongest, not weakest. Reject leftism and stop being a pussy.
