What's MRA's opinion on traditional values and gender roles?

I think it differs between people, but there are averages and generalities. Like, a specific woman might be great at manual labor and not want kids, and that’s great for that individual, but the majority of women aren’t going to be like that, and that’s not a bad thing. Same thing with guys- an individual man might love homemaking and want to raise his kids, and he should absolutely be able to, but he’s not going to be the majority. We have differences, and a minority of people having traits outside those differences doesn’t negate the fact that the average man and woman will often be better suited to more traditional gender roles.

An MRA is someone doing activism on behalf of men's rights. You will find people coming from about every single perspective that allows for men's rights to be recognized as important.

Which mean that you will find some MRAs that will tell you that traditional values are critical. And others will tell you that the traditional values are just as much a problem as feminism for tackling men's rights.

I tend to be more of the second opinion. While I recognize that men and women are different, I find those traditional gender roles to be more of a maladaptive behavior in our current environment than something that is still helpful.

Mostly against them. Traditionally, men had to provide for women, protect them, and solve their problems. They were first (and second, and every other number) to be used as cannon fodder in wars and other dangerous jobs. We can do better.

Nothing against it them whatsoever, I only have a problem with either side when they try and use governments to enforce their idea of what a society should be like.

In short. People are different, as individuals. I think women should have the right to build careers, and men to spend time with young kids. Both men and women should have the right to be asked out, to marry up, to be provided for, to have a career, to spend time with kids, etc.

I don't agree with traditional values because now it's only men who have to live up to these expectations while women have been liberated from them.

I too was brainwashed into believing that men and women are equal but I no longer believe that.

Men and women are different as you say and ideally we should be complementing each other's skills rather than be competing with each other but that is over now.

Let people do whatever they want so long as they aren't hurting or hampering others. Those don't have to be traditional roles at all, and that's fine, but it's also fine if they are. Arbitrary demands for sex and race quotas are sexist and racist.

Gender roles at times force people to be something they dont want to be and puts pressure on People to fill a certain role.

I think traditional values and gender roles are fine as long as they are not mandated. If a man chooses to be the breadwinner of the family and let his wife stay at home to raise the kids, that is completely fine. But a law mandating that would not be fine. If a man chooses to work in a dangerous occupation, like a coal mine, that is male-dominated, then that is fine. But again, a law mandating that would not be fine.

Under traditional gender roles: a man did the work necessary to keep society going, supported a woman of his choosing, and was rewarded for his efforts.

Under current progressive roles: a man does the work necessary to keep society going, supports all women via proxy of government without any choice, and is shit on every step of the way.

I personally think it's up to anyone which roles do you adopt in your life and which ones you don't. Gender roles made a lot of sense in some past societies where even the group survival depended on who was protected, but in society nowadays they're not exactly necessary. I don't think they're inherently bad but neither inherently good. If, say, in a couple, both members of the couple freely decide to follow them, good for them.

I personally wouldn't mine being a stay at home dad if my wife still respected me and that the stigma of stay at home dad wasn't looked down at. My wife would have to make at least 110,000 thousand and our expense ratio would have to be less than 50 percent .

I'm not particularly for or against gender roles but it makes the dynamics of a relationship easier in a way because the culture had essentially a "default" setting. One member was brought up to provide and the other to maintain/support. You didn't have to forge your own path. I think it made things simpler and refuse to accept this revisionist concept that all housewives were miserable prisoners kept as pets to overbearing men.

That being said it isn't bad if both people work, or even if the women works and the man has a more supportive role in the house. If it works for you go for it, but there's nothing wrong with traditional gender roles that fur the most part play to natural strengths looking at it macroscopicly.

Feminism is 100% right about gender being an artificial social construct and I wish more feminists actually took that idea seriously instead of glorifying the gender they were assigned at birth.
