Even if he got a DNA test proving it's not his kid, he'd be on the hook. If you can't as a father to a child for long enough, you will get nailed with child support. In rare cases, cohabitation with a woman who has kids can turn into grounds for child support without even getting married. You just have to be seen as the father figure and provide financial support to be on the hook if the state wants to push it.

Although this is a good post, the title does not say enough about its subject. This forces people to click and read before they can decide whether they are interested. It also makes searching impossible.

If everyone did this, the subreddit would become unusable. Moreover, it means that your post will fail to reach some readers because they won't know what it's about.

So please don't do it in future. Take the time to describe your link, and save the time of hundreds of other people.

When making a title, it's best to assume the reader doesn't know what you're talking about - but don't go overboard with every detail. Then check if there are any words you can cut out without losing any important information.

Its fair because he fucked up and put his name on the BC.

For reference i dont agree with it. I think its total bullshit. If its not yours your name on the BC shouldnt matter but it does. If youre name is on that BC, then youre the legal guardian of the child until legal things have been taken care of to change that. Its fair from a legal standpoint.

That doesnt change how rigged the courts are against men and how this is just another woman taking advantage of the courts sexism to her advantage.

For more info, because im really not defending that BM or the courts in this case, Im ONLY speaking from a LEGAL standpoint. Its not fair in the sense of how we perceive fairness, but it is fair in a LEGAL standpoint.

Eh, the guy put his name on the birth certificate. In that case, I call the child support completely fair, or rather, the concept of child support in that instance fair. It isn't like he didn't explicitly opt-in to being a "father" to the child.

Of course, I also think child support should be cost-based rather than means-based. And since he is on the birth certificate, he should have father's rights to custody (which, to be fair, he probably already has all the father's rights his state would have given him).

This is a dumb guy, not a dumb law. If you hold yourself out as the father, sign a legal document, call yourself his father, and support the child after that. You are the god damn father.

If that doesn’t sound fair to you. Imagine instead that this guy had been lied to. The mother told him he was the father, and now tried to take whom he believed to be his child away. That would be immensely unfair.

The law always cuts, so make sure you’re on the right side.
