High school girls admitted to targeting and falsely accusing a boy of sexual assault because they 'just don't like him'. Boy was fired from his job, forced to serve time in a juvenile detention facility, is now home-schooled and suffers psychological trauma. School officials just didn’t care.

No surprise. When you don't have degrees and experience yet the only jobs you can really get are jobs no one wants, a lot of them are hard physical labor. During the summer while I was in school to make extra money I was a mover. Being a mover is one of the physically toughest jobs there is as you work in blistering heat and you don't get done until you've taken everything off or onto the truck. Obviously though I got paid really good for this, way more than a babysitting or fast food type job. The girls in my school who worked during the summer worked babysitting and fast food type jobs.

I did roofing for my summer job for a couple of summers. Now that is a hot job. Also very dangerous. But yes, it paid well.

[–]DJ-Roukan 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And you deserve that pay. Babysitting is nowhere near the difficulty, wear on the body, or the danger that is roofing.

Put her on an asphalt roof in august for a day or two and she may have an epiphany or two.

[–]noelogoutlaw 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then you were lucky, roofing is the lowest paid construction job a person can get where I live.

I’ll raise you mowing with Basic. The 17 year olds I went through with suffered like you wouldn’t believe.

Moving, not mowing

[–]DJ-Roukan 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All I can say is this.

I run a design and construction company. Sitting at home on a comfy couch chasing a toddler around is not climbing staging, humping heavy lumber, increasing you risk of injury and death in a dirty, dangerous profession (97 men die each week just doing their job).

If she took the job, could work as fast and hard as the boys we hire in the summer, she would be getting paid the same.

That reality is clear when examining workers comp rates for construction as opposed to baby sitting.

she is basically painting a false narrative here, but that is what we teach young girls today, avoid logic and reason, speak with emotion and dogmatic assumption predicated on entitlement, so it is to be expected.

The real discrimination here is the likelihood that parents would hire a girl to babysit over a boy, and boys have about a raindrops chance in hell of being hired for such, all based on dogmatic assumptions. Girls have an entire legal structure protecting them against such in construction.

The whole argument is FUBAR pushed by woke folks.

That was my summer job when I was 17. Fort Jackson.

Slackin’ Jackson.

I tree planted for a while when I was younger. Plenty of female tree planters. Physically brutal job.

None of us got paid well :(

I can’t believe anyone wrote an article on this... if only they knew what I paid my 13 year old boy to mow the yard.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I did two different jobs before 21, I baby sat for families and did labour work for builders.

Babysitting paid me more per hour but did less hours (3-4 for a night and maybe once every couple of weeks), required patience and that was it.

Labouring paid me below minimum wage and cash, was on average a 10-12 hour day and was treated like shit.

Did labouring more because it was constant work, 5 days a week.

[–]p3ngwin 27 points28 points29 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

maybe there would be more boys doing babysitting, you know, if they weren't branded as pedophiles and rapists from birth....

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points24 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

About 13 per cent of girls reported some form of sexual harassment or assault while working last summer,

Harassment? Let me guess, no police report. What is the definition of harassment they are using?

He took a double take at me...it must have been sexual.

[–]benderXX[S] 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Being a victim is the new entitlement.

You can’t deprive women or girls of this. Animal.

[–]3-10 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If I was an animal, I would just rape her, you know like in nature....

Instead I am a civilized man who just wants to be treated decently and not like a pervert for existing.

[–]jeff_the_nurse 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There could be more male baby-sitters if moms didn’t profile men as pedophiles.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Right? I was told that boots are not as responsible and dangerous.

-Vandermeer is keenly aware of the pay disparity that exists among young boys and girls going into the heat of summer—a time when seasonal employment offers the country’s young people their first chances to be paid for their labour.

This is the point where I expect the article to say

Vandermeer is keenly aware of the pay disparity that exists among young boys and girls going into the heat of summer will be seeking jobs in “maintenance, gardening or groundskeeping.”

But

She has never been a fan of mowing lawns, and doesn’t know many girls who are—not that it should matter.

At least

She will study computer science at the University of Alberta.

I hope she is a fan or the industry she choose and don't blame the industry if she doesn't find success in it.

No mention of the gender trust gap? Boys are far less likely to be trusted, as a group, to look after small children and babies. Total group discrimination. If girls want to earn more they should do what boys and men do....you know....work harder. So, if boys could baby sit would they? Very likely as it is easy work. We don't have to ask would girls do yard work because they can if they want to, they just choose not to. Why? Because it is back breaking sweaty work.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The article, and you have to assume the report it's based on, studiously avoids comparing the value of the labour boys and girls are typically performing. This is telling. If they thought it was in girls' favour, they would not avoid the comparison.

I did some shitty jobs when I was a teen. I once stood for a whole day waste-high in a blocked drain full of effluent from a factory I was working in. When I finished that job, I did late shifts in restaurant kitchens, scrubbing pots.

Both jobs paid me more than my older sister's summer job working in a fashion boutique (sounds glam, but it was fashion for old ladies). Nothing against my sister or her boss. Her boss, who was lovely, knew she could get lots of teen girls to fill that role, so she paid less than jobs that involved standing in a drain full of congealed diesel run off and industrial effluent. Of course she did.

The Girl Guides is a feminist campaigning organisation. This illustrates why we need organisations that are dedicated to boys and their needs, which the Scouts sadly no longer is.

[–]1LegendaryWombat 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thats not a wage gap, thats an earnings gap, and even more than that, its different jobs.

If the jobs girls are doing are paying less, why don't they do the same jobs as the boys? Could it be, they don't want to? Or maybe, they cannot do it?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This.

As a lady with friggin' noodle arms there is no way for me to do most of the jobs guys can do, it's just more physically demanding labor, it makes sense that it would pay more, caring for a kid is significantly easier and less risky to your health than fucking construction.

What bullshit.

[–]ckitano88 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I ref’d soccer and golf caddy and worked at a tire company. I made bank for a young kid.

Girls can too

[–]rationalthought314 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But there will be critics. Deniers of gender pay inequity typically argue that the work of male-dominated sectors is inherently more difficult and demanding, and therefore worth more than the work produced by women. But Faraday counters: “It’s exactly that attitude that results in the undervaluing and undercompensation of women’s work. And it’s exactly that attitude that gave rise to the need of pay equity legislation.”

huh? I love how she completely dismisses a perfectly logical response. You can't expect watching kids to pay more than roofing. You want more pay, work harder or smarter. The real pay gap is the CEO and Board Directors making ginormous sums while the rest of us struggle to get by.

Nothing is sacred to this ideologues. Even teenagers.

Next thing you know, they'll declare a wage gap in the Lemonade Stand Industry.

[–]thebodymullet 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The answer is clear: we need more teenage male babysitters!

[–]Criket 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have 125 pack of roof Shingles to lift in a ladder on the second floor roof Monday if she interested to the same job...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I couldn't get a baby sitting job cause I was a boy. Somehow at 16, I was looked upon as possible danger. It's okay though cause fixing computer was netting me $500 a week.
