Hey guys,

I wanted to talk about something that's been on my mind lately. It seems like there's a common misconception in the PPD community (and maybe even society as a whole) that looks are the most important factor when it comes to dating. Don't get me wrong, looks do play a role, but they're not the ONLY factor.

One thing that's been bugging me is that even in 2021, guys are still expected to make the first move most of the time. We're the ones who have to ask her out, go in for the kiss, initiate the conversation about sex, etc. It's frustrating, especially when you consider how women complain about guys hitting on them all the time, but still expect us to make the first move. It's confusing, to say the least.

Now, I've seen some pretty average and even ugly guys do just fine in the dating world. They may not be conventionally attractive, but they have good social skills and know how to read social cues. However, if you struggle with social cues (like I do, being on the autism spectrum), it can be a lot more difficult. Looks can help, but they're not a magic key to success.

I've noticed that a lot of guys on the virgin/FA forums (around 30%, according to some stats) are on the autism spectrum, and this number tends to go up with age. It's tough when you feel like you're always coming off as awkward, but just remember that there's more to dating than looks. Keep working on your social skills and don't give up hope!
