So she gets busted in 2019. Sentenced to 5 years jail in 2022.

About that time she gets pregnant. And, once the child is born, she is released:

In sentencing Ross, Justice Crowley took into account the “exceptional circumstances” present in the case, including the woman’s need to care for her one-month old baby.

What a great reason to have a child.

And what a fucked up legal system to encourage this behaviour.

Obviously the same rules wouldn't apply to fathers.

EDIT: I got her original sentence wrong initially. Thanks OP for the correction.

Every woman awaiting trial does the same fucking thing. Get pregnant so she can claim the 'think of my child card' which works every time.

Dalia dipolito, elizabeth holmes, that bitch who killed the homless dude, that woman who ran over a teenager, every pedophile teacher etc etc etc.

[–]niko_xf 24 points25 points26 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Basically no serious repercussions for trafficking drugs. Just get pregnant. I wond r what would be the case if a man is in that situation and he happens to be the only parent. I would guess he would lose custody to any relative there is.

[–]StripedFalafel 24 points25 points26 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Her boyfriend got 12 years though he wasn't the one carrying the drugs. But obviously because "Man bad, woman victim" he got most of the punishment.

And because children are the property of the mother, the boyfriend isn't about to get released to care for his child.

Elizabeth Holmes tried the same stunt.

[–]Rolaid-Tommassi[S] 15 points16 points17 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Pretty sure the husband/partner got 12 years.

[–]StripedFalafel 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

My mistake.

Thank you

Obviously the same rules wouldn't apply to fathers.

I know, right? If women can get out of jail because their children need them to care for them, shouldn't men be allowed to get out of jail because their children need them to provide for them? Fair is fair.

Why the hell would someone fly from Sydney to Brisbane with 3 bags of drugs. You have to be an idiot to do that. Less chance of getting caught just driving from Sydney to Brisbane.

[–]SympatheticListener 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Great! She has now birthed the child of a drug trafficker. She will soon be sucking off welfare and living in subsidized housing. Always a good feeling to know when you are paying for another's stupid criminal welfare breeder partner.

She didn’t get jail time because she had a good lawyer that presented her as a good character and made it seem like this is an “isolated case” implying she wouldn’t normally do something like this… the court also probably only let her off because she had a month year old baby…the man in this case was sentenced to 12 years but he was eligible for parole immediately

[–]killcat 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Sure. The fact that she's a "mother" made no difference /s

[+]Jefferycollin -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Additionally they both spent 5 years in jail (in pre-trial custody) so the claim that she got “not jail time” is false and he was also offered immediate parole after he was charged

[+]Jefferycollin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I literally brought that up and said the fact that she was a new mother (‘a new mother’ is also taken differently in court than just ‘a mother’) but not all women are mothers and even fewer are “new” mothers…

I said specifically earlier that she didn’t ‘get off’ just because she was a woman, but because she had a good lawyer and a one month old baby… and don’t try to misunderstand- that is still a flaw in justice systems and that goes into the problems with family court specifically, but it’s not that she’s “just a woman” she’s a woman with a new baby and enough money to get a good lawyer… it doesn’t matter if you’re a man or woman (generally) all that matters is how good your lawyer is (e.g. how much money you have)

[–]killcat 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Nope. Her being a woman has a huge impact, an average of a 40% reduction in sentence length, and men can't get pregnant so it's not a trick they can play. Now having money and a good lawyer certainly helps, but plenty of women get away with literal murder when men don't.

[+]Jefferycollin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

That’s because most men (traditionally judges and jurors were men) didn’t think a woman could be capable of the crime because ‘women are too sweet’ now that more females are judges and on jury duty, more women have been convicted of murder, drug crimes, theft, etc.

[–]killcat 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yeah the "women are wonderful effect" well documented.

[+]Jefferycollin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yeah but again, that’s becoming less common because more jurors and judges are women now… the prejudice still exists- don’t get me wrong- but it’s becoming less common as we progress as a nation and as a world as a whole…

My point is; women are not the problem, the system is- ‘don’t hate the player, hate the game’

[–]killcat 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You think women are going to be more fair? Nope, they exhibit a strong in group bias, the entire feminist movement is running on propaganda and lies in the West, the "war" can never end, otherwise the money dries up.

[+]Jefferycollin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And that’s why women getting convicted of violent crimes is more common then than now, right?💀

[–]killcat 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If that's the case I imagine it's because they are committing more, but given that for example Scotland want's to close ALL women's prisons, and Spain has special courts it's hardly that the system is harsher on them.

[–]Grow_peace_in_Bedlam 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So where are all the stories of men being let off because their children need someone to provide for them?

[+]Jefferycollin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Again, I said her being a mother did have an impact and that men are not treated fairly when in family court in general- which I brought up originally and said that is a problem… but the point is that drug dealers try to target women to be traffickers because airline security won’t suspect them as much and there are many women who have been caught and charged on drug trafficking charges…

I will say it for the final time it’s not “just because she’s a girl” it’s because she had a good lawyer and was a mother- and don’t misunderstand… because it’s not just because she’s a mother because many mothers have also been jailed- there’s women who have kids while in jail and they don’t give a shit (at least in America) but the main thing that got her off was her having a good lawyer that called on ‘witnesses’ that testified about her ‘great character’

[–]OlddYeller1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (12 children) | Copy Link

I just think about how much better off men would be if this woman was in jail and the child was in foster care. Men would be so much better off.

[–]plumberack 37 points38 points39 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

In-group bias for a criminal woman? Why do you feel obligated to protect her? Yes, everybody will be better off when drug smugglers are in jail. Lot of lives of party teenagers are saved by locking up smugglers.

[–]OlddYeller1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

So it’s not really a mens rights issue is it? Just a human rights issue.

[–]plumberack 23 points24 points25 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Do men come under human rights? I asked you a question, why do you have in-group bias for her?

[–]OlddYeller1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

I’m a man. Wouldn’t it be an out group bias?

[–]plumberack 19 points20 points21 points 3 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Both men and women have bias for women because they see women as a protected tribe regardless of who they are. This is a very outdated tribal mindset that many men and women have and it mostly favours criminal women. In men, men with this mindset become the white knights and in women, they become feminists.

[–]OlddYeller1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

In group bias is the tendency to favour your own group over other.

[–]plumberack 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I made it clear that you come under white knight category.

[–]TrueNeutrall0011 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Society as a whole would be better off yeah. I agree completely. Even better let the father out to take care of his kid because statistically the kid will have every disadvantage by being raised by her alone.

Single mothers as a majority make shit parents and that's a fact lol

[–]EmirikolWoker 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Under what circumstances would you support equal treatment in court?

[–]Grow_peace_in_Bedlam 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just think about how much better off women would be if that man was in jail and the child was on welfare. Women would be so much better off.

Same energy. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. If women can be let off because their kids need them to provide childcare, surely men should be able to be let off so that their kids can be materially provided for.
