Anyone picked up a better credit card prior to the end?

I did. I got it to be able to get flight miles to take the kids on vacation. I treat it basically like my debit card, everything I'd buy with my debit, I buy on it and I pay it back every month so I have 0 balance.

It was definitely worth it in my situation, I'm up to enough miles to go on a summer trip after 2 months.

I reported my full gross pay to them.

Your gross income and more importantly AGI don't change. You get taxed on it but the recipient doesn't.

I would consult a lawyer about opening a card prior to ending the divorce as this could be a violation of a temporary standing order regarding financial changes that aren't "usual business" and might put you in contemptnof court

I got the AmEx Blue Cash Preferred because the annual fee is only $95, but you get a $300 statement credit if you spend $300 in the first six months. It’s 6% back at the grocery store (excludes Walmart and Target), 3% on gas, etc. I’m not really one for traveling and I do almost all my cooking/eating at home, so this card made the most sense. I got a new card right away so that the little credit score hit could recover before I go to buy a new house.

I followed this process, and now I'm racking up tons of miles, have $60k line of credit, and if course I pay it off every two weeks. Plus I now get access to airport lounges and tons of other perks. Took my kid at Christmas for a week across the country and didn't pay for airfare or the hotel. I'm never going back to a debit card, there's no benefit to them for me anymore.
