So, I've been reading a lot of the sidebar material, in particular the suggested reading. Right now I'm devouring the Book of Pook, and his discourse on the nature of a man and how to approach women.
It seems like the most important thing in dating (and in general) is to not be boring, for lots of reasons. Men are of action, not sitting around talking. You want to show her your physicality. You want to lead her. You want to actually have FUN, and do something YOU enjoy, because ultimately you're testing for compatibility. Outcome independent, confident you looking to fill your own goals for a fun time will be infinitely more interesting than a dumb coffee date.
So, I'm trying to brainstorm things that I would enjoy "taking myself on a date", but I'm having trouble. For Instance, a bike ride? A martial arts class? Bowling? Mini-golf? All fun stuff I enjoy doing myself, but inappropriate for a first date? Should I have a "screw the rules, this can be a first date" mentality?
I know this must seem like a silly barrier, but it's the last biggest one to come to mind before I feel like I should just walk out there and do what comes naturally.
