I've heard some conflicting viewpoints on legal separation. She screwed up and knows it and we've come to an agreement on what we are dividing. I make double what she does, but she is in a pool for a position that will bring her within 20% of my salary. We were renting and our lease is up at the EOM, I moved to a new place today and she's going to be signing a new lease this week.

No kids (thank FSM for fertility issues) and not too many major assets (I'm paying for her car, auto & health insurance, nothing else) and we divided everything we had amicably.

Is there any benefit to doing a legal separation in my situation? Honestly, my heart is just broken and I still care about her, but I just can't see myself coming back as I have zero trust in her (her reaction to hardship is seeking another man).

Please help.

Edit: I'm mainly concerned if it will benefit me in terms of her coming after me once she realizes how hard life's gonna be without me. Should I jump on it now, wait for her to get the better position and file for divorce then? I'm lost and been too much of a wreck to do the proper research, so I apologize if the information is readily available.
