I disagree with this article as much as articles promoting female obesity glorification.

Yes, there can be negative issues with under eating and becoming obsessive about working out, but the issues related to obesity, over eating and lack of exercise are presently far, far greater problems. By portraying fitness negatively, this article is doing more harm than good in my opinion.

That said, the male models pictured here are not morbidly obese as we see pushed with the female obesity glorification campaigns.

The job of advertising isn’t to role model bodies, it’s to sell a product or service. However if they do choose to role model, I disagree that role modeling against fitness and for being over weight is helpful.

Jacked and shredded look of traditional models are also neither fit nor healthy. Many of them abuse steroids, dehydrate themselves for days and have extremely low body fat% which is not maintainable by average man. Men and women are so used to seeing these perfect male models that they actually believe that's how a fit and functional male body looks like.

Men generally understand that those kinds of physique takes a lot of work and dedication, and are not angered by the success of other men, or try to tear them down for doing what they themselves can't.

Not one skinny or obese guy in the bunch.

There isn't even much variety in height.

[–]meeralakshmi[S] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I would say that three of the guys can be classified as skinny. Also obesity is unhealthy and shouldn't be promoted.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As someone who was skinny most of their life until hitting their late 30s, none of those people are skinny. Some are average.

I'm 6'4 and was underweight my whole adult life and could not put the weight on until recently.

My point about obesity was that similar body positive movements for women are far more diverse, healthy or otherwise.

As someone who was skinny most of their life until hitting their 30s, some of those guys are definitely skinny. Not shaggy skinny, but skinny.

[–]-GoldenHandTheJust- 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

what? 3rd guy from the left, 2 from the right both fat. Middle guy pretty skinny. Heights def vary, the guys in the centre are a good head different.

Having any gut doesn't equal being obese.

[–]-GoldenHandTheJust- 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the dude on the right literally has 3 bellies. That isn’t just a ‘gut’

It looks like OP posted an AMP link. These should load faster, but AMP is controversial because of concerns over privacy and the Open Web. Fully cached AMP pages (like the one OP posted), are especially problematic.

Maybe check out the canonical page instead: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6983167/new-underwear-brand-surge-says-pants-to-male-body-image-issues/

I love the representation of many body types. Additionally its different from the “fat is beautiful” marketing that companies advertising to feminists use. It shows that mens bodies protrayed in media is unhealthy and inaccurate. Including trans men is also helpful to our community of transmen who often struggle with the same body issues we do.

[–]_-Wizard-_ 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Is that a female? Clearly the tits have been cut off? Could someone clarify? Is my ideal body missing my breasts? I’m a male but then again my biological features don’t define me as a man.

[–]meeralakshmi[S] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It's a trans man.

[–]_-Wizard-_ -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]Disastrous-Ad1334 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't like it. Strong gay vibe. If it's targeting gay men, it's fine. Also, Men don't need a body positivity movement. Work out and eat right. It'll do wonders for your physical and emotional health. Fat acceptance/body positivity is not the way.

[–]meeralakshmi[S] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Body positivity doesn’t equal fat acceptance, this ad shows a variety of healthy bodies.

[–]Wonderful_Working315 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a different side of the same coin. Healthy fit people don't talk about body positivity. Show your support by telling them they should lose weight, exercise, and workout. Coach them on healthier eating habits. Invite them to the gym or for a run. Tell them it's not ok, and to seek better.

*some are healthy, some overweight (unhealthy), some are obese (very unhealthy), some are under weight (unhealthy)

This is dehumanizing and Fack you.

[–]househubbyintraining 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I dont see the issue? Seems good, eating disorders are unsurprisingly underdiagnosed in men last i checked, pressure to look away is growing in men, beauty standards going up for us. And the gay community the most guilty of male objectification. These dudes look like ur average guys off the street, nothing more nothing less. Pretty good step forward in the department. Which is not saying much, especially from liberal/feminist culture.
