I'm terrified on how costly it can become. How do I know the one I'm consulting has my best interest in mind and approach my situation the best way to hopefully limit the financial hit?

I know it depends how much push back the other side puts and I'm aware of uncontested vs contested but I feel like my partner will not be 'reasonable' about it all. (Even though whatever financial hit that a contested divorce process does, it will ultimately affect both of us and our kids by limiting our potential financial resources to separately provide healthy spaces for them)

I just need to get it done, already
