Coach Greg is dead on with the MW. My marriage played out beat for beat like he said.

I/we were able to restore our marriage multiple times 3 cycles and they played out exactly the same, some slight variations, but all the signs remained the same.

More or less spot on. The timeline may differ, but it went exactly as he laid it out.

That said I'm not a huge proponent of GCA, as he is a bit too over the top.

His book is pretty rudimentary, but not wrong. There are certainly better works out there. Keep in mind that he has always branded himself as entertainment related to relationships.

Its roughly accurate. It seems like women cheat/divorce around the 12 - 15 year mark or the 20 year mark (once the children are older). Where I disagree with him is he makes it seem like women are scheming from the very beginning in order to extract money out of the husband. I think its far more complicated and varied in terms of motivations.

I didn't marry the government, I entered a civil contract. I've also done that with civil contractors and employers. I didn't get employed by the government or anything like that. Just a weird incorrect statement. Abiding by the laws of a civil contract does not entail the government is really the one you are actually entering the contract with. They're just the ones who enforce the terms or have written laws regarding such contracts and that is a different beast.

He's overperceiving malice for women entering relationships and marriage. Based on what people actually say going into a marriage, they aren't there planning to get divorced the vast majority of the time. Nor is the angle to somehow wrestle themselves in an imbalance in relationship power.

While that can and does happen, I don't think the intent to get there is as common much less is the intent common from the start of the relationship.

As to the actual wheel? It seems woefully inaccurate and generally just relies on some truism.

People might fall in love but not get married. They might get married but divorce before accumulating assets.

They might get married and the woman is actually the higher contributor (as is true in about 16% of marriages) or they have similar incomes (as is true in about 32% of marriages). And then there are plenty of people who don't get divorced nor is the wife wielding the threat of divorce to gain favors.

And yeah, you're in a divorce subreddit so you're going to get a disproportionate amount of men who do fit this description, but there is a massive selection bias.

Statistics are always better than some guy trying to sell something to you. If you want to understand why women get married, how they feel about their relationships and why they get divorced, it's better to look at the stats. And if you are going to look for advice from people who are actually under professional scrutiny. People with titles like "doctor" rather than "coach".

For instance we could go with Athur Aron, who has a doctorate in psychology and is a fellow of the APA's Society for Family and Couples Psychology.

Referencing actual statistics, he cites that 40% of married couples still report being very intensely in love after 10 years of marriage.

I def got baboozled into the loop…sex frequency dropped post marriage, even more post baby….more demands as the years progressed and “never” happy or satisfied….she moved out, we separated, she cheated then we agreed on Divorce. I’m a year out and happier, def more educated on marriage and Narcissism/Borderline Personality Disorders…Men:never marry!
