I'm not sure who "we" is in this thread. In my social world, at least, it's normal for anyone to respect rejecting anyone else for any reason, outside of something like overt racism.

Like, if my friend comes to the bar after a date and tells us "her vibes were off," we take his word for it. No further questions asked.

I think it's a very small niche of people who would ever say that, or even think about it long enough to develop an opinion. Most men aren't getting criticized for wearing pants every day. But if a woman only wore pants, she'd probably be asked why pretty often.

Again, I can't relate. There has been a slow, but gradual shift in this thinking from women over the past few decades. I don't think anyone would disagree with the assertion that more women approach men in the 2020s (when controlled for the effect of covid) than in any decade prior. It's also very common these days to see women encouraging other women to make the first move.

However, the reason this isn't a great direct comparison between men and women is that men are more likely to have to approach first as a matter of practical reality. If a woman doesn't want to approach, she's missing out on some good opportunities. If a man doesn't want to approach first, he's usually taking himself completely out of the game. One should be criticized more firmly than the other because it's simply a less viable option.

This is a consequence of the huge double standards society has in favor of women. There are many many more examples of this. Generally, toxic women are very well accepted and celebrated. Men are not, not even decent men.
