A few days ago I watched the Barbie movie. It was pretty much the kind of superficial and delusional take on gender issues that I was expecting after hearing people's comments, on top of being a pretty OK comedy. The fact that it made swaths of people believe that it has some kind of deep accurate social critique is probably the only intelligent thing about it. I have to say, I am kind of enjoying the recent "snub" controversy around the movie. It is exactly the kind of mundane online outrage that I occassionally enjoy laughing at considering what is involved.

These days the topic of a possible future war and the possible need of conscripting the younger generations has been commented in some places (like the UK); unsurprisingly for me, I haven't seen much commentary about the gendered aspect of this topic. Somewhere (in a post about Gen Z in Europe not accepting conscription, perhaps), I read a comment of some Finnish guy saying that in his country people accept and implement conscription because for them rights come with that responsibility. Finland, a "gender equal" country that automatically exempts one gender from that responsibility. I can’t imagine living with that level of cognitive dissonance...

So just wanting everyone's $0.02 cents here...

As a trans woman (who presented male and experienced men's social issues firsthand most of her life), what are things I can do to support men's issues besides just generally being aware (for example, taking male DV and SA survivors seriously when I interact with them?)

It feels like when I try to draw on my own experience to put myself in cis men's shoes to empathize and support them, half the time I'm told I'm not really a woman.

Greta Gerwig was not nominated for an Oscar for Barbie. Margot Robbie was not nominated for Barbie. Ryan Gosling was the only person nominated to win an Oscar for their part in the Barbie movie and I just can’t stop laughing.

Has anyone here read the full article? I can’t access it I’m poor so I want to hear the thoughts of people who have. It seems pretty important. Sibling abuse is rarely talked about despite being the most common form of abuse. It’s more common than IPV and more common than other abusive family relationships like parent-child. It’s 85% of children in the US with a sibling has abused their sibling level of common and normalized by society. It’s a serious issue. When it is talked about, it’s often done with claim it’s caused by the patriarchy, just like other forms of abuse unfortunately, and that framework really harms victims & abuse prevention.

From what I’m understanding here they found that there wasn’t a gender difference in perpetrating physical and emotional abuse onto your siblings, but there was a significant difference on what gender sexually abused their siblings. And contrary to what’s usually said, that difference was females were significantly more likely to sexually abuse their sibling. If true that‘s very important to understand. I want to know what the flaws / limitations of this is and how big the difference actually is. Since I can’t read it may not be as significant as I’m getting from the abstract
