I do. Men are allowed to have emotions and feel hurt. They're allowed to talk about things even if you can't solve it. You can acknowledge there are bigger issues while still leaving space to be human.

I mean, it's gonna always hurt on some level. Even as a guy in a relationship (with another guy), knowing that the world looks down on you and kinda treats you as inferior for being short isn't great and there's no way to make it great. In that way I see it the same as my disabilities; ableism will never go away and that's always going to hurt. I don't spend that much time thinking on it because, well, I have a lot of other things to think about. I have a lot of things I love and enjoy and I'd r…

I know it's more nuanced in reality, but I have a personal policy for safety of assuming every woman who says they hate men while attracted to them is or would be abusive towards her partner. At the very least, I think it would have some similar mental health effects on the male partner to emotional abuse. "You're the exception," does not spare. As other comments said, does being told you're "one of the good ones" by a racist partner undo the damage? Not really, and in some ways it's more insidi…

Somebody I used to speak to told me that 5'11" is a baby. To make it more bizarre, she was from a country where the average height for men is ~5'6". Still kinda hard to believe she actually said that. I wish people talked more about the unrealistic body (and personality) standards women set for others and how their community spaces & romance media shapes it. That's not to say enjoying unrealistic or uncommon body types is wrong, it's just women do not have the same social pressure to be realisti…

Thank you, that’s a good space to have. What I wanted to talk about isn’t specifically abuse, it’s more about how social attitudes and things I’ve internalized lead me to act in ways I wish I didn’t with women. Specifically when trying to be friends or “hang out” with women / in women-dominated spaces. Being abused is part of why I have these issues, but it’s broader. It’s about internalized misandry and how I suppress parts of myself because masculinity and being male is often treated negativel…

It’s important to acknowledge & share, not diminishing that, but I want to say that it says a lot about someone to not take it seriously even if it was mostly men raping other men They don’t genuinely care about rape or abuse for ethical reasons, it’s to fit their political label. Gendering & politicizing abuse is such a terrible fucking idea

When I check Letterboxd reviews I often see misandry. In general Letterboxd reviews are bad. It has a problem with hateful or rude comments, or non-harmful but unhelpful insider jokes, often 1 sentence, instead of actually being reviews. I imagine it’s mostly teens who’re trying to fit in. That’s not to say that comment isn’t fucked up, it is and I think there should be some kind of consequence to saying shit like that. But I’m not surprised at all. I doubt Letterboxd cares since this kind of po…

When I hear romance, it’s not explicit. I am thinking of gushy love stories popular with girls. I am aware romance can be smut, but it is not what comes to mind including in the original post. I expect if it was in this context someone would’ve been clear about that. Esp. Paired with she didn’t mean anything by it. And to be clear, I am not shitting in OP for their choice of words. Miscommunication happens, I’m autistic this happens constantly. It wasn’t told it was explicit until OP replied to …

I said giving a non-sexual romance book would be sexual abuse if the intent was grooming. Grooming does not have to be explicit sexual content. “Innocent” romance can be grooming. I didn’t that giving a smut book isn’t grooming. It is, and that’s what I said: “unless it was an adult / sexual romance book.” Also please read my other comments beneath this. I agree what happent to OP was sexual abuse after he explaint it. I’m also a grooming victim. I was molested daily for years as a child by my o…

That makes sense. It’s a good point. I guess I don’t think that of people who beat their children or other normalized abuse even if they think it’s beneficial. I think there’s a part of them doing it to harm, control, acting on instinct or repeat their own trauma rather than truly or fully believing it’s healthy. But it’s possible and in that case I’d agree yes it’s still abuse. It still feels different from the thought I’m having of this scenario. I am not sure why, if there is a legit reason o…

I agree it’s a form of sexual abuse (assuming the person knew / they didn’t forget what the book was about). Showing children visual pornography or telling them explicit sexual things about others is abuse, I don’t think it makes sense for graphic writing to be excluded. Thank you for explaining it was graphic. Why do you think she didn’t mean anything but also that it was abuse? Abuse has some intent at least subconsciously. Accidentally, like she forgot/wasn’t thinking of the contents, isn’t a…

Unless it was an adult / sexual romance book or she was giving it with intention to groom you, making inappropriate comments as she handed it to you, it’s not a form of sexual abuse. You’re still allowed to be upset by it and it could’ve impacted you negatively even if it’s not sexual abuse.

I’m gonna be out hopefully mid-December. First week of Jan at the latest. I am so happy. I’m hopeful it will be the start of a life worth living. Unfortunately I cannot go no contact with my family like I wanted. But for now it should be enough. Very low contact. Hopefully in a year or two I will be able to move again and not have them know my address. I’m a little upset I probably won’t have enough time to decorate for Christmas. But it’s ok. I will celebrate Christmas in January instead.

Abuse towards others has always been normalized and it still is. It’s not gendered and it’s not new. If someone says this then I think they don’t believe abuse is abuse unless it fits an arbitrary narrow definition they get from the culture they grew up and/or currently live in. I wouldn’t respond, I’d probably avoid them.

Nice question. Thank you for giving me opportunity to share this. Despite being here for 3 years and my flair I don't feel a connection to term left-wing/leftist or any political label. I don't understand politics well, I'm limited by my cognitive ability, and inability to understand = inability to care much emotionally (empathy?) either about much of politics. My life experiences & personality traits make me pay more attention to & emotionally care about deeper than politics. All humans are vio…

I feel and am unwelcomed (to different degrees) everywhere including here. I still value LWMA despite that because there is more to the world than me. I don't date. Every human regardless of whatever beliefs they have, including if they're neurodivergent, won't welcome people with mental disabilities that affect them in x way. Some disabled people are very unlucky with the type of disability & presentation they get and cannot be truly accepted. I'm one of them. It's not a fault of anyone but the…

Thank you for bringing this up. I wasn't aware they supported animal testing. Thinking about it now, it makes sense and to be expected. I don't know a lot about animal testing alternatives & charities to donate to instead. I knew of in Canada the Canadian Centre for Alternatives to Animal Methods (CCAAM) ... though I look it up now to give the link and apparently they were shut down in May :(. This is fucked up but it did make me laugh which I appreciate. My dream woman would be a decade or 2 older & physically stronger than me. People like this would still find a way to fit that into their view men are predatory, though.

You’re welcome. I found it from here I think. My experiences with other mental health & abuse support stuff makes me avoid checking out CPTSD because I expect a lot of misandry & defending abusive women (the people who abused me were mostly female), and that puts me in a worse mental state.

I thought it was meant to be misandrist until I read your comment explaining, it doesn’t come off clear to me it’s anti-sexism. Maybe if the cat had angry expression it’s clearer. In general, stickers are good easy activism tool and i encourage you keep coming up with ideas. I put them up for other causes. They’re easy to DIY. You can also wheatpaste posters.

Thank you. I have a good therapist & good (online) friends. The skin disease is Atopic Dermatitis which isn't technically autoimmune for reasons I'm not smart enough to understand. but involves the immune system messing up so there's a lot of similarities. In my experience it feels like being allergic to most things including water except the only symptoms affect my skin. I have issues with my digestive system too but gastroenterologist said its idiopathic.

What kind of goals should I pursue going forward ? (I think this is still important if you're not single.) The ones you want to. Don't decide based off what society tells you you should do. Ask yourself questions like, "What matters to you? What are your values? What impact do you want to have on the world? What do you like doing? What interests you, what are you not interested in?" etc. They will probably change over time. For me it's very important I help reduce suffering in the world, that's …

Mixed, more on good side. I’m in process of moving out of a care home for mentally disabled adults, into apartment (I will have support workers), which is very good, but also stressful. And I’m on new medication that might be making mental health worse. My skin disease is flaring up badly, it should be better when I move to apartment tho it will be cleaner, more space, less stress & less physical things for my body to react to. I think for 2 months now I’ve been struggling with drugs again, once…

Trying to continue reading about the evolutionary role of seed mucilage but I can’t because even with my earplugs in and big ear defenders full volume playing music on top this *sshole is blaring his tv so loud I can’t read. It’s insane. I hate loud people.

You can argue that, and it'd be really silly. I haven't heard people say that but I've heard people argue similar things, like missing eating certain foods is worse than being gassed. But you can't argue that with what I said because it's not about comparing suffering between people. It's about deciding for others that the benefits they get from being attractive "are so overwhelmingly huge that any kind of downside is really just completely negligible." That's a personal thing. If it explains it…

This sub “supports male mental health” but then shit like this gets upvoted .-. It’s the same old mental health stigma. Cut yourself to be valid. Cut deeper to be valid. There’s good things in your life, so you can’t complain. Other people have it better, so you can’t complain. We decide what’s good and bad in your life and what hurts, not you. You will magically stop hurting because we say you shouldn’t and if you don’t then make yourself shut up in shame, bottle it up and don’t tell anyone. It…

It’s not for you or me or anyone else to decide that. That’s not how mental health works. If someone is hurting and don’t think the good in their life outweighs it, they’re going to hurt and the good isn’t going to outweigh it. It doesn’t stop because others tell them that it’s negligible and they shouldn’t feel that way because they have good things in their life.

To reduce chance of this being misunderstood: I’m not denying pretty privilege. It’s real and I’m also not here to compare downsides of being attractive vs unattractive. Here to say the pain someone is going through isn’t “proved” as “meaningful” by if somebody self-harms or not. It’s very hard to self-harm. It’s not easy like you’re making it out to be. Also to be clear I’m not attractive, I’m ugly as hell, and I’m also full of scars because I’ve self harmed a lot / not no experience with what …

Sorry this is 55 days late… the other person (slowtanker) is right , APS might not take you out and the abuse can get worse as punishment. This happent to me when I was a kid. That was CPS instead of APS, so not the same but similar. My experience with APS was better and I was moved into a group home but that leads me into the next issue, you might be moved to a worse place to live. I’ve “been” to 3 group homes and all were bad. Some of this was very important and good and I’m glad it was shared but there was a lot of misinformation too I want to address Many people are diagnosed with level 1 autism There are some (not many) level 2/3 who went undiagnosed / late diagnosed due to severe abuse/neglect and/or misdiagnosed as another disorder that they could survive off enough under treatment for. by nature of higher support needs it’s more difficult to step up. We’re awful at organizing movements, when we struggle to do things like use the bathroom, speak, and eat. Can’t organize daily life, tasks. If we were capable of organizing large movements we wouldn’t be level 2/3.

Other comments are good. Want to add that there’s more abusive relationship dynamics between adults that would benefit from shelters than just romantic relationships. If you’ve got oversheltered/controlled or disabled adult men living with abusive families or caregivers, they don’t have the money (or other resources) to leave as well. In the case for disabled adults, they may get help from APS, but it’s not guaranteed and may result in a worse situation… same problem with shelters in reality. So…

Over detailed is a sign of someone telling the truth. That’s what victims with fear of not being believed do. Especially those who’ve had a lot of experience / added trauma of people not believing them and refusing help, like childhood abuse. They can also be processing it as they talk about it which can lead to “rambling” or “traumadumping” (I hate this word). Autism also can cause / make it “worse” and autistic people are easy targets to abuse. It could be someone making up a story and having …

Okay. I agree with you that we should prioritize net good / what helps most sentient individuals over just 1 individual. If we care about an individual (we should) it follows to want to help as many of these individuals as possible. I disagree on what you consider good & bad. Good is reducing suffering. Bad is increasing suffering. What you’re expressing support for in your comments increases net suffering to an extreme extent. I think it’s morally reprehensible. It’s supporting the cycle of suf…

Men aren’t sacrificing themselves in androcide, others are sacrificing them against their will. The intent can vary, it’s not inherently done because the oppressors think it’s for the good of the whole.

Unfortunately that makes me uncomfortable as well. I feel disgust and fear. Though I can see it’s my trauma from incestous abuse causing a distorted view of healthy parental relationships. I don’t support a world where boys or any kid is withheld parental affection from their guardians. I don’t know who these people are so maybe I’m missing important context, but from what’s given I empathize without condoning his behaviour. It’s harmful to encourage this mindset, and he shouldn’t be posting per…

I was hoping he’d tell me “yes I know how how childrens brains work/develop at this age and what’s the age-appropriate way to respond, here is how…” He just said I did the right thing (I didn’t) and that the adult who walkt by was probably scared to intervene in case they had a weapon. No(t yet!) I’ve lookt into it and found here only an intactivist group that’s been abandoned since 2012. I’m not able to do street activism solo and I don’t know anyone who’d help out. But I want to do it, I hate doing nothing. I’ve been thinking of ideas for other types of real life (but not street) activism that I may be able to do. I haven’t decided on my first act yet, it will probably be something on a sticker, but I don’t know what would be good for a sticker. (Ideas welcome)

Small thing since… 1 of the ladies who works here , she has 2 small dogs and she brings them here when she’s working . They like me and try to follow me everywhere. It’s cute. 1 of the dogs used to be a service dog for a man with PTSD, she’s retired The lady told me that she thought it was interesting she (the dog) immediately came up to me The lady said that she (the dog) recognizes symptoms on her own and goes to comfort (I have PTSD) It is kind of sweet… little doggy looking out for me.

Yes I hope it helps. Maybe, I don’t know my level. I haven’t seen a psych in years , I’m waiting to see new one and they’ll probably tell me my level then. Im expecting its level 2 because while I struggle a lot im a lot higher functioning than whan I was a kid i didn’t function at all. Homelessness already didn’t mean living on the street though to social workers & other experts who work with the homeless. Couch surfing, staying at a shelter, squatting in abandoned buildings or storage sheds, living in a motel or your car were already considered forms of homelessness. But other forms of homelessness are also dangerous and often end up to rough sleepi…

She does this almost every day except first time threaten police. She getting worse as she loses more control over me lately / with my psw, group homes, not letting her come to my appointments, not telling her private info she has no reason to know except uses to hurt me etc . My moms trying help me find someplace to live. Idk if she is genuine here or manipulation. Cuz she manipulative a lot. The spectrum is wide. So there’s a common misidea only people with high functioning autism can write like me. And/or that it always goes with profound intellectual disability. And that’s true many can’t but there’s also a lot who can. I was the stereotype nonverbal severe autism child. I was put in speech therapy at 3, antipsychotics at 5. Thanks for answering, thank you, this is good. I was also victim of abuse, by many women, I’m mentally disabled which makes me an easy target. Women get what seems unrestricted access to vulnerable people including other animals (my mother & sister who were the worst also abused other animals while running a “rescue”). Men have stigma stopping them from easily working with us, spots kind good men could fill & help us instead are filled by abusive women. I think abusive women don’t need to hide v…

Hi I read it, I’m confused on what this will be about, like what type of abuse. Is it on men/adults being abused by women in relationships only, or any age males abused by women, like will CSA perpetrated by mothers, older sisters, female teachers & doctors etc be talkt about too?

Thanks I have a problem where relaxing is & taking care of myself very hard, or maybe my way of taking care of myself is different, because I think I feel better when I helping others, and not doing anything hurts more, lr maybe I’m wrong because I’m also very bad at understanding how I’m feeling Thoughts It feels impossible for me to sit still and do nothing if that’s what relaxing is? I think using street epistemology would help. I want to see others do it. I haven’t tried it for this cause myself because I don’t have the strength to listen to people say my suffering matters less or is impossible & make excuses for female abusers. So bear with me as I make request other people on this sub who can do it to learn about street epistemology & start testing it for this cause. She’s doing better already. Shes oddly cuddly with me since we got back to my grandparents. I think she’s thanking me. you should try valerian tea. it helps calm s lot of people down/sleep & some people use it to help quitting benzos. I think my life/disabilities is too much for there/draining. They go there expecting more normal issues that can be fixt with advice or emotional support then they'll be fine, not an ongoing hopeless situation. I don't give in return/support others because I don't understand their lives/problems such as friends, family, dating, jobs, college. Also so have to be careful to seem normal to not make others uncomfortable, that takes a lot of energy & time for me. Like now this seems small maybe but i…

Cuz in my experience they're not at all. 3 guys I were online friends with when I was younger opent up to me about being sexually abused without knowing it was sexual abuse. I kind of relate. I don't do that stuff but I feel guilty around women & I'm scared of them. I'm mentally disabled & I Can't hide it so I'm like the creepy stereotype manchild most women hate & encourage violence against because they think we're a threat. I feel safer around men cuz they're not as likely to see me as a threat, more a harmless retard. The mainstream portrayal of men would say male strangers're constantly bullying me but it's not. A lot of them have mental illness & disabilities that makes it hard to take care of themselves. Depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, autism, drug addiction, a lot more can make it very hard to do daily functioning tasks healthy people take for granted. It'd make no sense for you to have sexually assaulted her. If you did, she sexually assaulted you back because you were also drunk. Neither of you sexually assaulted each other though. For it to be sexual assault one of you would've had to refuse or be sober while the other is obviously too drunk to consent, like about to pass out. My brain keeps telling me that it doesn't matter what I thought matters how she feels. How you feel matters too. It's not your fault.

I've been lurking for a while now and I guess this will be what gets me out, because I care a lot about both men's rights and animal rights. PETA's male-specific sex strike I disagree with.
