You're very welcome here and no one here will judge you. And the low-effort rule is more for things like dropping memes, etc.

You're not alone. There are many others who have gone through similar trauma. While I personally haven't, maybe someone else will show up who has.

Either way, there is no need to share any details you are uncomfortable with, especially as it looks like this is an account you use for other stuff as well. We just want you to feel accepted and know that you're not alone. Share only as much as you are comfortable with.

It sounds like you've been through some serious shit, so I would recommend you find a therapist to help you work through that.

Not by my sister but I was abused by my two older half brothers for the better part of my adolescent life. I will tell you that of all the shit that’s happened to me, such a heavy betrayal by the ones that are supposed to care most about you is some shit that I don’t know I’ll ever really be comfortable with. I honestly didn’t even realize it was abuse until I got to college and learned more about the power dynamics of abuse. My whole life I’ve craved acceptance from my brothers but was only welcomed into their circle when I caught them doing some shit and it continued for nearly ten years.

I’ve been seeing a counselor for almost a year and a half now and it has helped a lot. If you find one that you don’t think understands or is able to listen your story without judgement, find a different one. Just being able to speak to someone removed from the situation who is empathetic and nonjudgmental has been huge for me. Acknowledgement and support when you feel alone in the world is life saving.

Nothing in my life is anywhere near perfect but I’m more at peace with this part of my life than I ever have been. I wouldn’t say that I am “at peace” but I’ve removed my brothers from my life and haven’t spoken to either directly in over three years now. I’ve told my dad the truth and he basically tried to play fixer between me and my oldest brother at first. I finally broke it down for him that it’s my fucking life and I’m not concerned about what anyone else has to say about it. I refuse to continue to let people destroy me and get off with no consequences simply because we share blood.

I know it feels insurmountable at times but all you can do is find someone to listen to and acknowledge your story. I’m a rare case where I have around a dozen close friends from high school and earlier that we all still get together now in our 30s. But what has helped for me has been to lean on my loved ones that I know do care about me. My ex wife was the first one to pull the story out of me but her support essentially ended there. I’ve found someone else who truly makes me feel safe and I voluntarily shared my story with her within the first couple weeks. This was something that I’d never uttered a single word to anyone about for nearly 20 years. Sorry for the rambling here but my point is that it never goes away but it can get better. Spend your time with the people you love that love you back. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable with the right people but do what you need to do to protect yourself.
