Honestly, I think this is pretty cool of the guy to do. I've seen some other stuff on this sub complaining about male disposability, and how men are always asked to sacrifice themselves in times of war, but I'm really not getting that sense from this clip.

For one, she's a civilian noncombatant, and the soldier clearly sees it as his duty to protect her, even at the potential cost of his own life. I don't know if he would have done the same for a male civilian, but it's possible he would have.

Secondly, he's wearing body armor, so if a piece of shrapnel came flying their way, he could get struck by it and be unhurt. That isn't true for the unarmored civilian.

Thirdly, tucking in close to the wall where the civilian is standing, with his less important backside exposed and his vitals protected is probably a hell of a lot safer for him than standing out in the open. So not only is he protecting the civvy, he's protecting his own ass too, with the added bonus of looking like a chivalrous gentleman while doing it. Sounds like a win-win to me.
