Why would my wife lie about the duration of our marriage in our divorce filing? (CA)

In MOST jdxs the date of the end of the marriage is the date of service, not the date of separation, but it can also be agreed upon between the parties. HOWEVER, there are various reasons an attorney may put the date of separation as earlier. As other posters have said it might be for a raise that happened after that date which would affect child support, spousal maintenance OR retirement accounts and 401k's.

on the petition the length of marriage is based on the date of separation, not date of service. Or at least in my experience. We’re you two separated in august?

Hmm, not sure. In NC, the date chosen in the separation date, not the divorce date. You can’t exactly fudge the divorce date, or the served date, as those are fixed to objective dates. You could fudge the date when separation began, and my ex did, but she did so to file for divorce earlier than the one year separation would allow.

Which, I easily could have challenged, but would have been pointless

Does she earn more money? Did she start sleeping with someone else? So many reasons that it could be.

Most likely reason is that her lawyer gives no fucks, it is not going to be a fight, it does not sound like you have major money, etc. Her lawyer odds are spent all of 25 min talking with her on the phone to draft the response.
