So I'm a math major in university. When meeting new people often the question comes up : " so what do you study?". When I say "math" or when I feel checky "mathematics", there's always a negative emotional reaction by everybody. They are often surprised by it because I don't look like someone who studies some shit like that. I think it's better than no reaction at all, but how do deal with it and hold frame.

When I get comments like "God I hate math", I answer with some shit like "yeah I'm the kind of person who gets a boner when the professor talks about sinnus and cosinnus".

Often the first question after that is "to become a teacher?". Which I often respond to with something like " No. The good pure stuff".

I love what I study and I ain't ashamed of it so lying about it is no option for me, I don't feel like justifying it as well . I get some laughs with the statements I listed, but I want to hear what you guys have to say. Do I deal with it well or where should I improve?

not a native English speaker so no hate pls
