It's important to remember that even if you work your ass off and sacrifice and do everything possible to "make it big" doing whatever self serving entrepreneurial bs you masturbate to...there's a good chance you fail. College isn't about setting the ceiling it's about setting the floor. College sets you up to have an okay life making enough money that your wife probably won't have to work until your kids are old enough to be home alone for a few hours a day and no one will go hungry (floor=40-50k/ year) up to making a decent living (75-90k) depending on degree, skill, and ambition.

Is college necessary to be successful? No but it's a lot harder to make 50k+ before youre 30 with no education after high school. You could do a trade but it takes a while and you have to bust your ass AND be really good to make good money. In high school you can rely on raw ability to be moderately successful but once you get into the real world you will be outshined be people who work harder.

You want to "be successful in this world" and "do big things in life" but it seems like all.youve done so far is loaf around and do just enough to get by. What're your specific goals? What do you want to do? More specifically what do you want to do that not going to college will benefit you more than hinder you? As and Bs with a decent SAT? Too bad that doesn't sign paychecks.

Put away your need to “prove everyone wrong” by not going to college. First of all, that’s immature angsty teenager talk, and second of all, even if you become a billionaire at age 23, nobody will give a fuck that you did it without a college degree, so what do you think you’ll gain by not doing college?

You’re not doing yourself any favors by having a shit attitude about college. College is a fucking ocean of opportunity for learning new shit, meeting interesting people, banging gorgeous women, making business connections, everything. Statistically speaking you are fucking yourself by not going to college, and don’t think for one second that you are so smart that you can beat statistics.

If you really have the drive that you think you have, you’ll make 3 million dollars your sophomore year and can then say you earned the right to not finish college.

If you're pissing away your life fighting a jihad against someone else's worldview, then you're not living an outcome-independent existence.

Stop being a little bitch and focus on what gets you to where you need to go. If that's college, then suck it up, buttercup.

Also, be suspicious of your own motives for why you're doing specific things. You have to at some point become a lethally effective chess player, and that means life is about the position you are in, not the list of revenge fantasies you have against others.

You don't need college if you meet these criteria...

1) You have the drive, ambition, etc. to learn on your own.

2) The career/position you want does not require a degree such as many in healthcare or some in STEM and teaching.

3) You are sure you won't regret not having that social experience (overrated at most colleges anyways imo).

However, if your parents are willing to pay for it completely, then I would do it anyways. A college degree is like a ticket to a special club. Many companies strictly require a 4-year degree minimum regardless of what the degree is in to just be considered for lots of jobs. The way around this is networking, but having a free degree is a huge stress reliever.

In my opinion it would be dumb to give up an education just to rebel against your parent like some kind of angsty teenager.

College is what you make of it. Why not major in engineering or another STEM degree?

Also, in 2018, employers will all but require you to have a degree.

Pick one thing, get really good at it, and stick with it.

That's it.

Make it your lifes mission whether or not you end up enjoying it as much as you thought.

If you don't want to go to college then don't. That's your parents fucking problem whether you do or don't. Not every decision is going to appease your parents regardless so might as well do what you want.

Besides, when you near their age, you may find out that they're morons all along, like almost every other adult has found out about their parents ever.
