I have the same issue sometimes. Usually if I look away and look back I just say "hey how are u?" just to keep it from feeling awkward. Works 100% of the time.

Make it a game and go to a park or public place and practice. Try it on everyone until it feels natural.

This is a ridiculous sticking point to get hung up on. What you're doing is focusing on playing games instead of vetting for interest and making a move. If someone is staring you down, they either like you, find you intriguing, or find something about you distasteful.

So that brings me to this: Why are you trying to keep the eye contact? It doesn't serve the interaction in any way. If you're walking past them trying to prolong eye contact then you never intended on approaching anyway, therefore whether you prolong or not is meaningless.

Next, there's looking away because you're submissive and scared, and looking away because you got better shit to do. You need to look away because you got better shit to do.

Right now you're trying to force the submissive bitch out of you by using a buffer for rejection instead of a real solution. Instead of trying to prolong, look for acknowledgement from those girls that are headed to you. If they do then approach. If they don't, still approach. It's your job as a man to take the lead.
