Long time lurker, first time poster, full time AFC'er. At 22 years of age, I've stumbled through two relationships, a handful of hookups, and a one-night stand (thanks alcohol!). However, a recent breakup has me wanting to better myself as a man. I no longer want to stumble through my AFC motions and let luck dictate when I meet a new girl. Therefore, I've been going hard on pickup theory. Reading everything Seddit, jumping over to RSDnation, and watching RSD Foundations and Blueprint. Pretty much the only thing I got out of all this theory was confusion and a less motivated drive to change.
Today, I said "Fuck It." My college semester is almost over, and there have been a couple girls who have caught my attention in class. Usually I just make excuses so I don't talk to them, but after watching a few videos of Sasha Daygame, and Tyler's "Shut The Fuck Up, And Let's Get On With It" video, I went for the approach.
The approach was a lot harder than I expected it to be. I thought all the theory that I checked out would have had me cruising through the interaction. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case.
So, the interaction went like this:
Class lets out, and I'm walking towards the parking lot. She (HBglasses), walks past me, also towards the parking lot. I turn my head to a buddy from class, who gives me a head nod indicating I should open her. I said "Fuck It." and jogged up to her and tapped her on the shoulder.
While Walking With Her
Me: Hey
HBglasses: Hey
Me: I think you're the only person in my class who's name I don't know.
Hbglasses: Oh, haha, it's Hbglasses.
Me: HBglasses huh. Cool. So, what's your major?
(Small conversation that leads into what her major is, employment, school work, lame questions. Also a note that I was the one asking questions, I don't think she asked any. End of conversation resulted in silence for a couple of feet.)
Stopped walking. She turns to me.
Me: Hey, I think you're pretty cute and would like to go out sometime. How's Thursday?
Hbglasses: Thanks. I have a boyfriend though.
Me: Do you? That's cool. Thought I'd ask though.
Hbglasses: Yeah. I'll see you around though?
Me: Definetely.
Walked over to my buddy, talked for a minute, then I got in my car and drove away. I always had a fear of rejection, which I think has held me back as far as approaching. After receiving my first ever rejection though, I'm laughing at how minuscule the feeling of it is. I know it wasn't a good showing at all, but I figure I have to start somewhere. The interaction was really easy and actually fun. So much fun, actually, that the sting of how awkward I was feels almost non-existent.
That's that. This is incredibly cliche, but I really wanted to get this experience out there to you guys as a testament and starting point for myself. I've done a lot of lurking here, but the feeling of a band of brothers here at Seddit backing me up, accepting and encouraging my transformation really helps in driving me. Thanks guys.
I do have a question though. While approaching, as a newbie, should I just keep stumbling and poorly talking my way through these interactions for a period of time, or should I be referencing something to help myself? RSD Foundations resonated with me the best.
