Seeking advice from guys who do well with making new guy friends

Just be yourself and be assertive. If someone says something about you or disrespects you stand up for yourself or speak up thats all it is. Thats all respect really stems from and not acting like a goofy or getting in your feelings when somebody teases you. Don’t care if people like you or not either that’ll change up your behaviour and make you people please. Just be yourself, have confidence and good body language and be assertive. Isnt even hard

You should be able to talk a little about most topics that you will face later in life (politics, finance, some sport, how to build stuff around the house or how engines work...). It helps to know a little of every of these topics but don't push your view on someone else and also take care to not step someone on the foot if you dont have arguments to back it up. Also the topic WOMEN is just social glue, even the first cavemen where standing around the fire wondering what their women where trying to tell them.😂 You will see that age doesn't make a difference when it comes to getting along with someone. Enjoy yourself and look for people with whom you vibe. Trying to impress will make them think you're weird and respect you even less.

If you focus on wanting to make them like you, they’ll pick up on it. People are intuitive that way.

Ask them open ended question about themselves, and actually listen instead of worrying about what you’re going say next.

It sounds ridiculous, but if your mind starts wondering, tense your toes or focus on your breathing, it will bring you back into the present.

If they all know each other well and you're the new guy, respect the camraderie they've built. Don't try to get too buddy buddy with them, impress them too hard, or get to know every inside joke. Show that you're a gracious host and you want them to be comfortable. Generally there is a loose hierarchy among the guys, you don't want to overspend your focus on talking to the guys who are the highest status. Even better is if someone isn't having a good time, ask one of his closer friends what you can do to help.

Take turns balancing between being:

Gracious - be giving with your time and attention, don't hog the mic, helpful

Assertive - assume that you can momentarily take a leadership role, like asking if anyone can make a beer run or telling someone they need to move their car or they can't smoke inside etc

Interested - you want to build close connections bit you're not trying to soul bond all the time, be willing to ask personal or private questions while being discreet/respectful

Distant - don't stand too close to the people who you want to be friends with, let them invite you in or get closer to you as they get to like you more. Take time to yourself, it can be exhausting playing host, feel free to take a breather. Sometimes people will even want to join you or be asking where you are, which builds anticipation.

Just make sure you don't hit on their wives/gfs and dudes are pretty easy. Don't rely on being friends with some of them, try and spend time befriending all of them!
