Has anyone seen Style (Neil Strauss) in the field or taken one of his bootcamps? Is he really as good at PUA as he says he is in The Game?

Don’t know, but consider that his book is not only 10+ years old, but also the fact that his “demographic” target was very particular. He was a journalist in the jet set.

I might be wrong, but I don’t think he used to go in “normal” venues.

People like to throw the term “outdated” around a lot here. I would wager this is without fully trying the techniques present. Or the more obvious answer: It’s hard to sell PUA material when some old fart did it better than you a decade ago.

He actually went pretty far beyond a lot of the canned material in his more advanced boot camp style(no pun intended) stuff. A lot more about why and how things worked. Yes, he would throw down a canned DHV story here and there and that was more because it’s easier to teach people to write music once they know how to play a handful of songs.

I’ve seen his and Mystery’s.. sneaks(pretty sure). Ect. Infields. They knew their shit. The body language, confidence and inner game was definitely there when they were on. It all worked then and with a solid understanding it all still works today.

What was their weakness? They were still to emotionally invested in the outcomes. That was the real breakthrough the community had with Models.

Yes I preach inner game first and usually that’s enough for most people out there but for a bit more I tap into the older PUA arts. I just do it with sincerity and no delusions of saying a combination of magic words that somehow make women want to fall into my arms.

Everything else being slung around today is just repackaged Models and old PUA hybridized with whoever selling it pretending models doesn’t exist and the old PUA guys are “outdated.” So they can sell their own boot camps and ebooks.

Neil is good. However, I'm not sure how good he is at cold approach. Neil uses a lot of theater, bells, and whistles. He goes into bars and clubs dressed to the nine's with other cool looking guys who are also dressed up. They use a lot of theater acting skills and method type acting to pull women. For instance, his passel of men might get a VIP table. They might even look kind of mafia like, sitting up there like the kings of the club. Then they begin approaching women, and the women fall like ripe apples.

Neil also uses limo's and wing-women (women that are friends that hang out with him and up his buying temperature). Add the fact that Neil is wealthy, known, and somewhat famous, and you have a guy who uses warm to hot game to get women. As far as cold approach goes? I don't think Neil has ever gone solo on a street or in a club. He probably has, but it didn't work so well, which is why he uses theater to get women. This doesn't mean that you can't get women through cold approach. A lot of good pua's got a lot of women through cold approach, but it is harder.

Also, the term outdated is not a word in pua. Either you are a womanizer, or you're trying to be one. You don't stop being a womanizer just because you turned 50. Sure, it might be harder to pull hot 22 year old's, but it's certainly not hard to pull hot 31 year old's. Trust me, all those 45 year old women that look to old for you now will look very hot when you are in your 50's and 60's. This is because we tend to become attracted to women that mirror us or look like us. So when you are 67, a 46 year old woman who works out and still has a nice shape will look very hot. When you were 23, this same woman would look like a grandma. You also find that at age 23, a 15 year old girl looks like a little kid, even though she looked so hot when you were 17.

Personally I got very little actual technique from Neil's book or the videos of him I've seen. Except for the stuff about being a really good and empathetic listener which is the point of the Jessica Alba clip.

I don't think he even makes himself out to be a great PUA in his book. He comes off as a slow learner who eventually had some success with a bit of daygame and celebrity game, but by the end of the book he's gone totally one-itis and needy.

I've seen videos where a couple of well-known PUAs praise him as a personal friend who taught them some good stuff.

Lance Mason said he's a great guy and he learned the Cube Game from him (for what that's worth). And one of the British PUA coaches ... might've been AFC Adam ... said they got a solid tip on body language from him (make your standing/walking posture look big but when you make eye contact tilt your head to seem less aggressive).

Neil's a short, bald, and un-handsome guy and his vibe is nebbish, empathetic and intellectual, not classically alpha and dominant. If you identify with a guy like that he might be a good coach for you. Overall though I would look to the more modern coaches who can synthesize all the old and new theories and techniques.

For me: Neil's book opened my eyes on living a life that was more full, having a few things in my back pocket and that sometimes it's best to just go in like it's a video game...who cares if some random girl brushes you off. Don't let it affect you.

And yeah, he was in a very specific environment. LA in 2001 is not like Seattle or Dallas in 2019.

Neil Strauss is a fraud. He claimed in his book that he spent six months working on game. It was more like a decade.

He got his lays like every other PUA: by spam approaching lower quality targets. In Neil's case, it was drugged out rocker/goth chicks, who were usually older (30+).

None of the well known PUA's can consistently lay hot chicks without severe issues: older (30+), druggies, tattoos, eating disorders, etc.
