So I'm in a tram, this gal (6-7/10) gets in, hops onto the seat about 7m from me. I'm trying to play a staring game, to see how she responds. She doesn't. So I'm thinking - well, ok, I won't try anything.

The next stop is mine, and I start walking in the direction the door, which is, coincidentally, the same direction in which she is seated (I need to pass her to get to the door). Couple of seconds go by, I glance at her and she is, like, stares at me. Not breaking eye contact. I stare back as I walk, this goes on for about 3 seconds, but I lost staring contest right before passed her.

Had another 5 seconds to decide what to do before door closes and I miss my stop, and I didn't pursue the opportunity (and it's not like I was late for something).

As this is not the first time I've experienced the same problem (inability to detach myself from previously made decision in light of changing circumstances), I wonder, is there any way to train yourself to think more quickly and act more flexibly?

P.S. Yeah, she stared at me in that way, not in any other.
