So I found my balls today and asked a girl out at Whole Foods. She was actually the checkout girl, and we talked a bit while I was checking out. I got a really good vibe from her, so I went to my car, put away my groceries, wrote down my number, went back in and gave it to her. She visibly went "Awwe I'd love to" when I said "I didn't want to hold your line up, but we should hang out sometime". She texted me later saying "I'm so glad you came back".

I left the store with my heart still pounding, but when I got home, I realized something; that was just the first step. If anything, now comes the hard part. She texted me back saying "So DP, what are you all about?". Man, that's a tough question to answer, especially over text. I don't want to sound arrogant, or get into a big conversation, I'd rather talk about that in person. But I realize, she probably wants to know a bit about me before actually going out on a date with me. And even if and when we go out (which isn't necessarily a guarantee), who knows if we'll hit it off in person.

But at the end of the day, I think I realized that it's a process. You can't put so much weight on each step, just do what you do, be comfortable and confident, and try to make a connection. If it works, it works, if not, try again with someone else. Guys build up that first approach, gathering the courage to ask her out or for her number, but it's a such a minor, binary event in the entire process. The real hard part is what to do if it actually works out.
