One of the characters from The Game (Herbal) posted an IAMA a while back and a bunch of the questions that came up were about Strauss and whether or not Tyler Durden was really as bad as Strauss made him out to be.

I think his general reply was that both of them were really great guys, but they were having a falling out at the time and Neil Strauss perceived a lot of the things that Durden did as intentionally malicious when they really weren't.

I've seen him give a talk once, and he is a really cool guy. Neil Strauss played up the drama a bit in The Game to make the story more interesting, but they actually get along better in real life.

His real name, which he goes by now, is Owen Cook. Honestly he doesn't seem nearly as bad as Neil describes him in The Game, and I imagine Neil played it up because they didn't have a good relationship while he was writing it. His Blueprint Decoded DVDs are pretty popular, and I thought they were good. Worth looking into with an open mind.

He used to make the most amazing posts on mASF. Lots of great and helpful material. By the time of The Game and all the drama before and after that, I wasn't reading the boards much anymore. He used to have a company called Real Social Dynamics. I don't know if that still exists.

He says "MmmKay" as much as Mr. Garrison. And also seems to be channeling Tom Cruise in Magnolia a bit much. Probably not a sociopath though.
