I figured I should do another FR, even though I nothing very good to report. I really should have posted a lot more about last weekend, rather than just focusing on one incident with the violent AMOG. That was an action packed weekend, this one wasn't.
I spent a lot of this week listening to the Love Systems Interview series, the first 10 interviews are really excellent, they cover the fundamentals of M3 in extreme detail. I've been listening to material about frames, and establishing a personal identity that can express DHVs with subcommunications. This is probably part of my problem, I'm broke and feeling particularly pitiful this week, so my subcommunication is that I'm a pitiful loser. I must work on that.
I started the evening by sending a little email note to Nurse Girl, it was her birthday. I sent her a little astrological chitchat, and some well wishes. I was thinking of inviting her to do something for her birthday, but she has a girlfriend with the same birthday, so it's girl's night out.
I really didn't even feel like going out Friday night. The evening's free concert was cancelled due to rain. I sat around and read seddit a bit, that always makes me want to get out sarging. I shaved and showered and got dressed and was out the door at about 10:30. I headed down to the live music club near my house. No live music. WTF? The place is full of football fans.. from our team's traditional rival. Oh shit, I thought this week was an away game. But no, it's a home game, and even worse, with our rival team that is close enough to our town that this is the most heavily attended game of the season. Well, this weekend is shot to hell. The whole city will be packed with drunken football fans from out of town. The annual weekend this game occurs is notorious for drunken stupidity by the visitors who trash their rival's town.
I asked a barmaid, what is the deal, no music? She said they moved it to Saturday night. I figured I should get out of there, the bar is full of people from out of town who are staying at the cheap hotels nearby. This is the lowest class crowd I've been in so far. Time to get out of here. That is a decision I will regret later.
The main reason I went out the door Friday night is because I was out of cigarettes. So I went downtown to the tobacco/coffee place. I figured I might as well check out this football crowd too, but I wasn't going to stick around much. So I bought my smokes and headed out to Tavern J. That is also a decision I will regret later. I figured I'd skip my usual club, I don't want to wear out my welcome there. That is also a decision I will regret later.
I get to Tavern J, it's packed. I can't get through the crowd, and then suddenly I find out why. The local college marching band is in the bar, with tubas, saxophones, trumpets, etc. The horn section has a tradition of going from from bar to bar, playing tunes for beers. I hate this tradition, it's too damn loud and it hurts my ears. Good thing I brought earplugs. Just to give you an idea of how stupid a drunken marching band is, when I get to the bar they're not even playing. They're leading the crowd in a sloppy sing-song of "On, Wisconsin," which is totally fucking stupid because neither of the teams in tomorrow's game is Wisconsin. But then they crank up the horns and I am jamming those wax earplugs into my ears even harder. One of the barmaids is giving me an odd look, so I try a little barmaid game. I use some of my usual earplug routines, like if I'm going to go deaf, I'm going to go deaf listening to music I like. She's amused but she's at a fixed station so this isn't going anywhere.
Oh, BTW, let me put in a plug (ha) for Mack's Pillow-Soft Earplugs. This is the strongest ear protection you can get, and come in a convenient carrying case. Just make sure your ears are clean or they won't stick and seal out the sound.
Finally the jukebox is back on, the sign that the band is on its way out. Hey, it's even playing a song I really like, "Words," by Missing Persons. Now this is my generation of music, and Dale Bozzio was really hot in that video. If I'm going to go deaf, this is a lot closer to the sort of music I'd go deaf for. Dale worked with greats like Frank Zappa, but today, she's a crazy bipolar cat lady that got sentenced to 90 days in jail for having a house full of sick and dead cats. Let that be a lesson to us: hot, talented women are usually crazy.
