There was some recent chat on seddit about posture and how we present ourselves. I mentioned that I saw a video produced by Love Systems that had a brief introduction to The Alexander Technique. I think it was Style who suggested it as a way to improve your image. I was asked to locate that video, but I couldn't. But I did locate an instructional video torrent.

I'm just starting to watch the video, but I have learned a few things. The Alexander Technique started with actors who wanted to improve their posture and their speaking voices. We all have a subconscious tendency to contort our bodies slightly when speaking to others, which makes us project a poor image, we look and sound tense. So actors and dancers have developed a technique to correct those behaviors. It seems to be a bit like yoga, and a bit like biofeedback. It appears that for optimal results, you'd need a personal consultation with one of their trained instructors, but it looks like these introductory exercises on the video would be of great help for guys like me with crappy posture. A lot of the exercises are intended as a remedy for back pain, but that's probably just for commercial reasons, back pain is one of the most commonly treated ailments. But overall this would keep you loose and help you move more gracefully, beyond any typical therapeutic treatments for posture or back pain.
