I recently broke up with LTG and had been feeling depressed and very pessimistic about the future. I began reading relationshipadvice hoping to find some tips for dealing with the loss. One post that I read on relationshipadvice linked to seddit and I have been reading seddit for the past three days now.

Thank you seddit! I feel like I've just escaped from prison. Seddit has already helped me identify so many areas of my life that were passing me by. I'm on the road to recovery now and am going to be the fantastic person that I know I can be.

The first night that I happened on seddit, I decided to go out into town on my own with the purpose of talking to some people. I have always been quite anxious in most social situations and normally I would keep to myself but this time I challenged myself to talk to anyone and everyone that I could. The first bar that I went to was a weird mix of older couples and I read my paper and left after a single whiskey and without talking to anyone. The next bar I went to had a younger crowd. I ordered some food and joked around with the waiter a few times. There were a few small groups of girls in the bar but I didn't have the courage at the time to approach any of them. I had my food and left, by this time I was a little annoyed with myself as I had slipped into old habits and had only really talked with the waiter. The next bar I went to was more of the same, I ordered a whiskey and went to the smoking area. There were a few groups of people there and there was one girl in a group of guys who seemed quite interested in me - we exchanged eye contact four or five times. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling confident enough to approach her in her group so I left that pub without even finishing my drink. I was really angry with myself at this point and I think I shouted to myself whilst walking down the street - "Come on [Name], you're a great guy! It's 2010 and your alive. Talk to people!".

The final pub that I visited had a comedy club on upstairs and the gig was just starting. The room was small but filled, about 50 people in all. I approached a group and asked them if one of the last remaining seats was taken. There were about 7 guys and three girls in their group. Behind me, there were two Dutch hotties on their own. I sat down and made a few jokes with one guy. Almost immediately, one of the girls in the group very noticeably moved her seat beside me. I said hi and we talked and joked for a while, she was a college student out with her college buddies. After the first few acts I joked with another two guys in the group and talked some more with the girl. Another guy in the group blocked me by awkwardly moving his chair in between me and the girl. I decided to get this guy on side so started chatting and joking with him. He was actually a cool guy and we had a good laugh. He want to the bar and the girl moved into his seat. I'm pretty sure that the two hotties behind us had been watching all of this. I looked around soon after and gave them both a big smile which was returned. I kicked myself afterwards for not going over to them right then. I had set everything up perfectly but chickened out at the crucial moment.

The night went on and I talked to a good few people. The gig ended and I decided to make a move for home, I had work early the next morning and I wasn't into the girl that I'd been chatting to. I said my goodbyes and headed home after an enjoyable night.

It may not sound like much, but this night was a big step for me. I was always terrified about being alone in social situations and would nearly always get out as quickly as I could. The past two days have also brought some small but satisfying successes - smiling at people on the street, chatting with people in the queue in the shop etc..

I'm going to have some fun this weekend and set myself some more challenges. I'll report back here if anyone is interested.

Thanks Seddit. I'm on the road to getting back my mojo.
