time constraints?

It's my understanding that the "false" time constraint is used during opening so that that your set doesn't get creeped out that you're never going leave.

I personally prefer non-verbal false time constraints where I rock my body away from the set to make it appear I'm on my way out of there. Seems to work very effectively.

If you're already at the "fooling around" phase, it doesn't sound like the time constraint applies. Maybe others can cite examples where it would be useful in your situation though.

Hey you're a busy guy, you don't have all night to talk to other people. You're waiting for your friends but naturally, you're a fun guy so you take it upon yourself to make new friends and give people a nice night(even for only for a few minutes) while you wait or you're about to go to another bar and they catch your attention because they seem like interesting people and would just like to talk to them before you go.

You're the alpha male, you fulfill your desires. They interest you, you talk to them. You're a busy guy, so you don't plan to stay long.

The time constraints can be a good save for when a set is bombing. When you feel unwelcome in a set you can just say "Oh, my friends are here(or damn, I gotta go, times up.), it was nice meeting you, have a nice night."

Don't use a technique if you don't understand why you are using it!

I never use time constraints on a date unless I actually have one I need to stick to. Since my goal is usually to get the girl back to my place and stay the night, I don't usually have one.

Time constraints are very useful when you have opened a girl, for a few reasons.

It legitimizes asking her for her number earlier than she may have expected. You can #-close in a small number of minutes if you have a time constraint.
It demonstrates value and social proof if your constraint is something like "hey I've got to go meet my friends at the [cool band] concert."
I don't recommend talking to a girl you just met for more than maybe an hour unless you are trying to get same-night action. The time constraint is your excuse to bail, rather than just saying "see you later".
You can use it as an eject technique if things aren't going well or you don't like the girl.

The main one I use is "I gotta go meet my friends at [another bar] in a few minutes."

You can set it up as soon as you open the girl, or you can use it as a departure technique. I usually use it as my departure technique. Using it as soon as you open is more useful if you are trying to speed #-close a girl. "Hey I gotta go [do whatever] in a minute but just wanted to say hi..." etc.

My fastest #-close was when I legitimately had to leave a party to go to a concert, but as I was leaving I met a hottie. I think we said 2 sentences to each other, but I got her number on the basis that I had to leave right then but wanted to talk to her more. She came out with me the next day.

There are many uses of time constraints, here is one example...

Lets say you see a few cute girls at a cafe and approach them. Regardless of how good you look, the first thing through their mind will likely be "Oh gosh, how long will this guy stick around?" hoping you don't stay to long and bug her. By saying "Hey, I gotta go meet up with a friend in a few minutes, but could you give me your opinion on..." You put her worries at ease. She believes that you will go soon and so she is more willing to chat because she is only committed to a few minutes of conversation instead of some indefinite interval. These few minutes are your window to win her over. By win her over I mean start good enough conversation to make her forget/not care about the false time constraint. If you fail, you eject using the time constraint as an excuse.

It relieves awkwardness, making u less invested in the approval of the group ur talking to since ur heading out anyway. It's also a good way to close a group cuz u have a reason to end re conversation when u want to end (like a number close: hey I gotta get bak to my friends, I'd love to talk to u again)
