So I found myself invited to an apartment party on the beach yesterday. It was a casual friend's birthday, being hosted by friends of his I didn't know. I was therefore going in with only one social contact. I hesitated about going, I had limited contact with this friend. But I decided to roll in later during the all-day party.
I arrive and see that most people have been hanging all day on the beach - they all know each other. My friend (lets call him Dude) is really good about introducing me all around. Turns out he's got some game.
At this point there were seven men and three women, HB8/HB6/HB5. The HB8 is getting lots of attention from all the more alpha guys (salsa dance lessons, flirting, banter, even physical-push-pull at one point). But I can tell she is used to the attention. I really don't think any of these guys (some of which had good game) got her. They sort of shot themselves in the foot.
I decide to ignore HB8 entirely (she did engage me a few times during the night, I suspect she was a little curious about my lack of attention).
An hour into my arrival, a guy & HB7.5 arrive. Easy to assume they are together, but they aren't initially very physical. The girl is wearing orange-ish shorts and a grey shirt, and my immediate first impression is: Hooters. This becomes her nickname for the night. I decide I'm going to tell her this.
She's chatting with another party-goer and I slide up, find a moment to interject and introduce myself.
I then immediately say: "Those shorts of yours. They are sort of orange, aren't they?"
She pauses and says "Yeah, I guess so, or maybe Salmon."
Me, turning to the guy she's chatting with: "Isn't there a chain, a food chain, that has a uniform that includes orange shorts?"
Guy: Pause... Pause... I don't say anything, keep looking at him "Umm..... Yeah! Hooters!"
She blushes, stammers: "Really? Do they really remind you of Hooters?"
She's really cute, and I find out later she can really dance. So I was surprised that she didn't recover / cover up her alarm better. Sort of told me she wasn't used to getting shit tested, or that she was nervous around me.
I then transition to asking her how she got to the party. Find out she's from Texas (in college) and acts a bit embarrassed when pressed. She tells us she is in a long distance relationship with the guy she came with, and they have been distance the entire time. THey are spending the summer seeing "how it goes." This appears to be gold, so I ask "So... how is it going?" She blushes again, says "fine!" but you can tell she's being a little sarcastic. Things aren't great.
I leave her at that point and decide I don't want to mess with Hooters. Nothing good would come of that. Still, I think it's a sign that my emotional / social game is getting better, that I was able to read her (I think) so well.
Ok, so I go sit on the couch with my beer.
Half hour later, I look up and there is a tallish, thin Filipino woman (HB7.5) at the party. I'll call her Jasmine. She is chatting with somebody across the room. I decide to test my low-effort pulling ability. Sort of as advocated by Chateau Heartiste.
As she finishes her conversation with the guy across the room, I catch her eye contact and hold it.
In a not-very-loud voice (given the distance) I say: "I like the pattern on your dress."
She can't quite hear me. She walks across the room and asks me to repeat myself.
Me: "I like the pattern on your dress! It's fun. Patterns are in right now, I like that." Note: I have not in any way changed my posture. I'm still slouched on the couch, looking comfortable and taking up space. I didn't sit up to help her hear me, I didn't lean in. I didn't act any more excited that she came to me.
She smiles, thanks me, and sits down on the couch next to me. She beings rapport questions pretty quickly, but I divert the conversation as soon as I see the opportunity. Second question in was a "where are you from" type, so I mirror it back to her and discover she was born in the Philippines. So I move directly into something different (and emotional): I ask her if they have flowering plants there.
Her: "Of course! We have Habiscus, Jasmine, ..." list of a few flowers / flowering trees / etc.
I follow up with questions (ok, sometimes statements that can be taken as questions - I'm not quizzing her so much as leading her) about what makes her think most of her home, why, etc. Emotional questions, and tied to her home country (which I sense is important to her).
She seems pretty into the conversation, I allow some rapport and DHV to slip in. In asking how she arrived at the party she tells me that her "friend brought her". It seemed pretty obvious that she was being careful to emphasize friend... I had seen a guy hanging with her earlier - that must be him. We chat for maybe 10 minutes when my friend (birthday boy) comes up and notifies me it is time to go to the bars.
I ask Jasmine if she is going dancing (An IOI on my part, I'm sure she noticed - but not a strong one). She says she's not sure. I get up and leave the apartment rather rapidly.
Bar A, we get in and start dancing as a group (there are now 12 of us). Jasmine and her friend arrive, but the friend has no dance ability and she isn't leaving his side. I consider dancing with them, but decide that would be awkward - so I don't interact with Jasmine at Bar A.
A sub-group of us (including my friend, but not Jasmine) bounce to Bar B. We are dancing and opening, being friendly. Maybe 30 minutes later Jasmine arrives with the guy friend. I'm watching their dynamics at this point, and it seems pretty clear that he is interested in her. But he's so painfully beta. Hand hesitantly on her arm or side... no dancing. He doesn't know what to do. And she seems really kind and friendly but not into him. So when a couple others join them (all non-dancers, so Jasmine is surrounded by 3 guys who don't dance) I find my way over.
Feeling a little guilty about it, I reach out my hand for Jasmine, she puts her hand in mine. Spin her around and my hands go to her hips, she starts dancing with me really well. She knows what she is doing. And she's having fun. Finally somebody is dancing / leading her. I can tell the beta friend is alarmed. He can tell he's in trouble. I feel bad. But Jasmine is having fun... Still, I don't want to rub it in his face all night, so I pretty quickly dis-engage and move back with the primary group.
Somewhat later, I mingle back in, grab Jasmine a second time and dance, then eject again. She is really pressing into me when we dance, I'm pulling her in tight. I love to apply physical pressure when I'm dancing with a woman. I don't hesitate to be strong, let her know I don't think she's fragile. I've had positive feedback from women multiple times on my handling of them (strong, not hesitate with my hands). Try to crush them, they love it (within reason - make sure she's into you first).
I'm ready to eject for the night, so I lean into Jasmin with my hand on her back and whisper "Do you go out dancing in <city up the coast where she lives>?" The beta looks alarmed that I'm whispering to Jasmine. Again, I feel guilty. But she's fun, cute, and he's boring.
Jasmine: "Yeah, I go to blah blah blah."
Jasmine: "You should call me next time you are up there."
I hand her my phone, she puts in her number. As she is doing this Beta leans in and whispers something to her. I can almost hear it: "Why are you giving him your number." She whispers something back, it feels like she is trying to calm him (re-assure him).
I eject for the night. Text Jasmine the next morning:
Me: "Hi Jasmine! I've got you on my dance card now. -ElectronPUA"
Two hours later
Jasmine: ":)"
TL;DR; Apartment Party. Experimented with a rather situational neg (implied a girl looked like she was dressed in a Hooters uniform). Desired effect. Also pulled interest from an HB7.5 (there with a beta, she labeled him "friend" - I would call him an orbiter). I was never an orbiter, thank goodness. Don't be that guy! She was trying to be nice to him, but she clearly wanted to hang with me. Danced a couple times, tried to respect that she came with the beta. # closed her in front of him, he looked alarmed.
