This is essentially right from Intimate Connections, but:

Smile at 5 strangers. Do this every day. Start with old grannies and ugly people, then move up to the intimidatingly beautiful.
Make an effort to smile at friends/family
Nominate friends or a family member to randomly come up to you and say "HEY YOU! SMILE RIGHT NOW! RIGHT THE FUCK NOW YOU UNHAPPY FUCK!!!!", and work on giving your most genuine smile. It helps simulate the pressure you feel while making eye contact with an attractive woman. Have them rate your smile from 1-10. Continue to do this until you are consistently getting 9's and 10's.
Work on your smiling in the mirror, make sure you are "smiling with your eyes", which will take work at first since these are usually involuntary responses. However, with practice they will become controllable.

Since you have a time crunch, practice in a mirror for at least a half-hour, then come back and do it again. I try to first generate a real smile by thinking of something funny, then replicate how it looked without a stimulating thought.

Not a direct answer to your question, and totally unrelated to your yearbook troubles, but you can have a self-amused and ridiculously unreactive 'smile' that isn't really a smile at all, by just slightly raising your eyebrows and making sure you have the tiniest of smirks. Practise in the mirror. Think James Bond. I've found it to be an excellent demeanor which comes naturally to me.

Be happy, you have plenty to be happy about. Not in a shit "oh I love my cat, and my dog, and my iguana and ice-cream and blah blah blah."

You do not need a reason to be happy, you just are.

Fake it til you make it. Just smile way to much at everything and everyone. It normally takes only a week or so of conscious smiling before it just becomes part of your demeanor.

think happy thoughts?

I remember walking and a person approached (gender doesn't matter), so I looked at my feet and remembered reading somewhere about doing just that and the advice that you should be thinking "gee I look like I have really low self-esteem".

So I thought about that and chuckled. Boom. Instant smile, locked eyes, and the person returned the feelings and so on, you get the point.

then, i practiced smile on the mirror, it took long before getting it right. practice smiling in front of mirror, and holding your smile for long time 2-3 min at time, eventually it will feel natural.
