I started doing daygame two months ago but lately I found that the success rate is abysmally low. 80-90% of girls shut me down within the first 10 seconds.

I must have done roughly a 100 approaches by now, of which only 10-20 led to a conversation longer than 10 seconds, of which 5-10 led to number closes, of which all except 2 led to flakes.

I was wondering if that's normal. I'll write the answers to the questions I think you may ask:

  • I approach almost exclusively in the street, during the day
  • I live in italy
  • I like to dress well, and my looks/hygiene/etc aren't a problem
  • Most of the time I open with "I saw you walking by and I wanted to say you look absolutely beautiful", "I like you and I wanted to meet you", and other similar variants. I say it slowly, inserting strategic pauses. I maintain eye contact and smile when I say the punchline.
  • I'm not nervous at all while opening, I'm used to it by now
  • As soon as I start talking I stop moving, if the girl keeps walking I ask her to stop for a second, if she doesn't or she starts walking again after my line I let it go and never "chase" her
  • I only approach girls I physically like, which are typically (but not always) objectively very attractive

Since I feel like I'm either going nowhere or progressing extremely slowly, what I can do to improve? I'm currently interested in getting more conversations rather then less flakes.

Thanks!

EDIT: I would like to better clarify that I give no resistance at all if she immediately says she's not interested or walks away. I just say "ok, have a nice day" and move on.
