You've got ladies LITERALLY throwing their numbers at you. I am beyond envious.
And dinner isn't a great first date idea for talking, and the movies is even worse. Go for coffee, drinks, or a walk.
[–]RealPharaoh3 points 12 years ago [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link
Haha well this is the first time it's ever happened, so don't be too jealous. I am not old enough for drinks, but I don't know if she is so that's not really an option. So would meeting up at like Starbucks be okay?
[–]Radioactive24 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I mean, I'd recommend somewhere a little less corporate. Some Starbucks are better than others, but it's not as relaxed of an environment; they want you to buy their coffee and get the fuck out.
If you've got an independently run coffee shop, I'd recommend that, especially if they've got something more comfortable to sit on than wooden chairs. Plus, it's usually a bit cheaper too.

That sounds like a good idea. The only problem is I'm not really familiar with the area because I'm new to it, so I don't know any places like these.

Or you could go bowling! Always a fun date idea
[–]crazylucifer 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
no to bowling, theres too much time of one person sitting down watching the other person. go with something like minigolf
[–]datsyuk_13 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
minigolf is okay for 3rd or 4th date i think. it will be hard to get a really good conversation going which is what you really want to be doing on that first date
[–]GraviticMan 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've had some real success with bowling for first dates. But your objections are right. Unless it's a group date, bowling splits the two of you up over and over again. I noticed that the first time I did it, and immediately went for quality control. This is what I did, and continue to do, on bowling dates.
After a couple frames, as I go to sit down and she goes to bowl, I grab her hand or waist, and tell her she should sit back down. Then I'd say something about how the lame thing about bowling is we don't really get to talk. She'll usually agree, so what I'll do is make a game out of it. We'll spend a minute or so talking and getting to know each other, all the while talking shit about how slow the other people using our lane are (there are no other people using our lane). Most girls pretty much never go to bowl their next frame until you send them off. Doing this, you can really control the interaction.
Also, I've found bowling to make kino pretty natural. Which is good for me, because as a newbie, steadily escalating kino is a bit of a sticking point. When bowling, I often smack a girl's ass when she just rolled a good frame, or grab her hand and joke about how big/little her fingers are after looking at her ball.

Why would dinner be bad?
[–]MarsMJD 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I believe it's because it's expensive and tends to put a lot of pressure on both parties to look/behave certain ways since it's a very formal "we are on a date" atmosphere.
Coffee or drinks on the other hand is much more casual and both parties can feel a lot more comfortable and laid back, potentially leading to a more genuine interaction.
[–]datsyuk_13 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
not to mention if there is no chemistry between two people you are stuck being forced to eat in front of each other(for maybe an hour?) which is not that fun and could end up costing you more than you wanted to spend on a first date. coffee/drinks is fine cause its cheap, you can end it quickly if need be, and you don't have to be super self conscious of your manners (that last point probably doesnt apply to that many people ha!)
[–]rohannibal 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Just my two cents. Keep it light, keep it casual. Take her someplace you're comfortable being. If you're nervous or not a talker, then take her some place with a lot of distractions. Perhaps an arcade, aquarium, somewhere you'll have activities to do, things to see, stuff to talk about. If you can't think of anywhere, just tell her she gets to choose where to go "this one time" and the balls in her court then. Lastly, if she doesn't live close I'd say ask her to meet you somewhere. This is just in case it doesn't go so well, you don't want to be stuck on an awkward ride to drop her off. Good luck!
[–]harimwakairi 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I cannot upvote this hard enough. Keep it casual, as if this kind of thing has happened for you before. No need to be arrogant, just normal, non-hyperventilating you.
[–]Pit_Sweat 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
First off, congrats and I'm sure you two are going to have a great time. Second, I agree that dinner/movie is not suitable for a first date, especially with a girl whom you literally know nothing about. Movies do not let you get to know each other at all, and dinner is too formal/too stigmatized plus you have that awkward "eating in front of each other for the first time" thing which is its own set of problems.
My advice is to think outside the box. Coffee/tea is always a safe option, but you could also do something like "hey, it's a beautiful day wanna join me for a walk in the park?" or something like that. If you have a dog you can bring it along (if she agrees) so that you guys can have a distraction when the conversation dies down. Stuff like that. Any place that you would normally go to hang out with your friends would be an option.
[–]RealPharaoh1 points 12 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link
Hmm it seems like a walk in the park would be a good idea. I'm actually new to the area so I had to look up a park online, but I found one. Do you think it would be okay to have a couple places and ask her what she thinks?
[–]Pit_Sweat 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
What do you mean, like ask her which place she would rather go? No, just suggest that you go there. This way you're being assertive and making decisions, but if she has a problem with the place she can always say so. It's also perfectly fine to venue hop. Meaning, you could spend some time in the park, and then if things are going well you can decide you're bored and go somewhere else, so have a couple places in mind
[–]RealPharaoh1 points 12 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
You know what I just realized. The date's gonna be at night. 7PM Is the park still an option?
[–]Pit_Sweat 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Lol. Idk man depends on the park. If there are a lot of people and/or if the park is well lit, it's still fine
[–]loganal 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
So, I'm at university also, and I'm about to ask a girl on a date. I am going to take her for coffee on a first date to establish comfort and see how things will go. then the second date is frozen yogurt, escalation, movie at my place, get my kiss on. envision your success and you shall have it
[–]ndatoxicity 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Kiss her on the first date bro! Just go for it if the mood is right. Be bold
[–]loganal 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
i just might do that
[–]ndatoxicity 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'd recommend it :) better to be too aggressive than not aggressive enough! My last few dates I've went for the more aggressive approach and it's worked out great
[–]loganal 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
nice dude, I'm happy for you
[–]RealPharaoh4 points 12 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
UPDATE Well, in case anyone was wondering, it went absolutely great. We met at a coffee shop near her work and literally talked until the shop closed and then out even more outside by her car. It was something like 6.5 hours and neither of us wanted to leave afterwards. We both felt so comfortable. At first, I was a little nervous because I barely even recognized her and I was still a bit nervous (I don't know if it's always slightly awkward at the beginning of first dates), but overall it was fantastic. Thanks for all the help guys. I used a lot of other tips I've learned from this subreddit as well and they definitely helped a ton.
[–]Armandiosis 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Good shit good shit bro. Now remember to stalk her home and sneak in her window to watch her sleep... Breath heavily on her neck, bitches love neck breath surprises.
[–]d4rkd34th4 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
good luck!
Thanks man! I know it's only one girl and therefore I shouldn't be thinking about her too much, but it's just my first time, so I'm nervous.
[–]d4rkd34th4 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She gave you her number so shes interested just have fun and enjoy.
[–]hilldawgexperience 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Definitely coffee and drive yourselves! Nothing more creepy than a guy that's anxious to get you into his car!
[–]el_Technico 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Is this a be attractive don't be unattractive moment or did you do something to catch her attention ? Wow, just wow.
Whatever you did, great job OP !

Good date spots are places like a driving range, mini golfing, activities that don't require too much effort and allow space to talk and take things easy. Especially if its before dinner time it allows you to keep it low key and keep some pressure off of the date. I generally keep movie and dinner till maybe the 3rd date. Especially since you two have not talked, you need time to talk and see if you are even compatible.
[–]SupALupRT 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Do something fun man. Going out for drinks is ok. Bowling is actually surprisingly fun and has GREAT kino opportunities.
[–]HappyJerk -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
I know you guys say dinner and movies are 2 bad ideas, but I feel like meeting up for a dinner to talk would be a decent idea.
So you know that everybody says that dinner is a bad idea, but you want to do it anyway? Why? Why are you even asking for advice if you're going to reject it?
Dinner is way too formal for a first date. You should go somewhere to get drinks. Invite her to a nice bar and sit next to her on a bar stool. Start some touching, talk about deep shit, and be positive and cool.
[–]RealPharaoh3 points 12 years ago [recovered] (8 children) | Copy Link
No you misunderstood me. I only wanted to know why dinner is considered bad. I'm not going to reject that idea haha; I won't be taking her to dinner.
I should have included that I am underage and so bars aren't an option. Any other options?
[–]Pit_Sweat 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Dinner is always a risky place to go at first because
1) She may feel self conscious eating in front of you 2) You or her may get judged for what you order (e.g. she's a vegetarian and has to watch you eat a steak) 3) You have to go through the whole shenanigans about who pays 4) Even if you pay, it might be a big bill which would be a shame if it didn't get anywhere with her 5) Plus if you pay she might think you're trying to buy her or something 6) I personally hate eating and talking so that's another reason.
Wow thanks for this reply. Lots of awesome reasons here. Clearly dinner is not an option.
[–]kingcal 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think the most important reason why dinner is a bad idea is because it's high pressure. If there is no conversational chemistry, you're both pretty much nailed to the table until the meal is over. There's no graceful way to bow out of a dinner. You just sit there in silence pushing peas around your plate and it's awful.
Coffee is much less intense. You may not be able to kino if you can't find a way to sit next to her, but it is still possible to chat and have a good time, while offering an easy exit in case things aren't going well. Casual drinks at a bar are similarly good, but also offer a bit more seductive frame and more kino opportunity.
[–]sharkacolypse 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
People here think dinner is bad because you can't kino, and if you're not kino-ing 100% of the time you're wrong.
I think that's bullshit, I've had some great first dates going to dinner. Go somewhere in an open air mall (indoor mall is ok, too, especially if it gets really cold where you're from) where the focus can be on walking and nothing is as loud as a shitty night club. You can talk just find over dinner as long as you remember to chew and speak separately. Have some gum in your pocket for after, tip the standard amount, and enjoy yourself.
If you don't want to go to dinner, that's fine, too. Coffee is great for a first real conversation because it's quiet and easy to tell how into you this girl is. Good coffee date = you both finish your drink and are still talking twenty minutes later. Bad coffee date = drinks finished and immediately leave.
[–]RealPharaoh2 points 12 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link
I like these ideas here. I think I'm going to ask her and maybe suggest going to the mall or a park. But in the dinner/coffee scenario, I'm assuming I should pay?
I'm a fan of splitting things. If you feel awkward asking her to pay for her own meal, then suggest that you pay for dinner and she buy coffee.
[–]sharkacolypse 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I've noticed when I do a coffee date it's usually in the afternoon and we pay for ourselves. It's kind of a stepping stone date, because if that goes well you can do a lot more with subsequent dates.
