I don't think I'm a very good looking guy (even though I've been told differently) and I have trouble keeping conversations with a girl. I always make excuses not to approach a girl and get really anxious at the thought of it. I keep telling myself I am very happy being single, and I am, but the first girl that shows interest in me I start thinking about being in a relationship because I think that no other girl will be interested. I was in 2 past relationships in which I had absolutely no feelings for the girls.

I shouldn't lack confidence, I have done a lot in my life...Marine Corps veteran (2 tours), a Master's degree, worked for some interesting companies and have met a lot of people but my current job is not very exciting and not in my field so that may contribute to my confidence issue. I have just never been one to talk about myself and say things to a girl that they may find interesting.

Once I get to know somebody then I break out of my shell and be who I am but that usually takes a couple months and by then it is too late.

Any advice to gain the confidence and approach a girl that I am actually interested in?
