Its weird isn't it? This happens to me too.

I think that beforehand, its because you have nothing to lose. Your just having fun, running game on her, but once you know that she likes you, you think that you need to impress her or at least not look like a loser and lose her interest. Once the stakes get higher, its no longer only about expressing yourself and having fun, an alterior motive of how she perceives you comes into play. And when your mind has two different priorities (expressing yourself, and thinking about how she perceives you), you aren't good at anything.

edit To expand, I just wanna say that thinking about how she perceives you is always going to be a factor, but if you look at someone who has his shit down and has a lot of experience, it is only a minor preoccupation in his mind. The majority of his mind is focused on what he is saying and on having fun.

Why keep it casual and fun? If you know she is into you.. you need to ESCALATE not keep beating around the bush. Touch her more, ask her out, etc.

This used to happen to me, so I understand.

What someone else said here rings true. When they express interest, suddenly the stakes are higher in your own mind. You want to protect your position instead of doing bold ridiculous shit (which paradoxically makes the situation worst in the long run. Playing it safe doesn't get results)

Like other people said here, it comes with experience. The next time this happens you'll understand what's going on, and hopefully you'll take action anyway. And if you start to worry about what may happen remember : You don't have a fucking clue about the future. There's no point worrying about it. Take things second by second. Do you think a tiger worries about if that gazelle he's about to take down is the linchpin of the entire herd and that when he does, they'll all turn on him? No. He takes the shit second by second. And so should you.
